Weed the dreaded Weed.

That can be really disappointing.
We are always at the mercy of mother nature be it wind, temperature or water conditions. I can only hope for all the factors to fall in my favor when going to the lake.
There is real joy when everything falls in place and I can have a happy day!
Better luck next time,

Make sure you test out the air boat for how much it can tow or push. I've seen a multi-engine/props airboat having problems moving a conventional model boat.

These weeds😔 look similar to what we have at our sailing pond. We haven't had a sailing meet in three months. About 1/3 of the pond is choked with these.

If this keeps up I just might have to build an airboat or air cushion boat.

On Chichester canal basin in West Sussex, we always have a weed problem, although they try their hardest to clear it. Many of us have ended up storing power boats during the weed season, and either buying or building sailing boats/yachts with internal ballast, such as Moonbeam and gaff cutters so the keel is smooth blending into the rudder, so no weed traps. Pity to miss loveley sunny sailing weather just because of weed.

Same problem where in the states. I live on Long Island, New York and the local ponds we usually sail in are chocked wish weeds growing out of the bottom and not just those floating on the surface. The same problem in Queens. the only thing that can be used are propeller air boats. Who says there is no environmental impact
I built my boat to use and not just look at on the shelf, bummer

Commiserations, we end up with the blue-green algae which effectively puts a stop on things at times.

Our Southport Model Boat Club add a special blue dye to the water to help to suppress the weed growth.

Previous chemicals used have given a black colour to the water and also worked well and have not proven to be harmful to the uninvited fish and ducks that seem to enjoy sharing our boating lake with us.

Not so easy to add to a canal - but maybe your local canal authority also have problems clearing weed and may like to consider adding a similar product to help in the same way?

Your not alone, it is a global issue. Peter Duncan in Australia sent me photos of their issues, many parts of southern Ontario though in norther areas where you find rocky shoreline it’s not as bad.

Afternoon Chaps.
This morning I thought I would go for a leisurely sail on the canal.
In the back of my mind I was thinking(unusual for me)Will there be weed, and how much with all this hot weather.!!
The photographs tell the result.
Not a chance at that location.
My other location would have been the same so gave up and came home and into the boat shed 😁.
Regards
Bill
Never give up.It will come right in the end.
