The first boat I built

Hi Flaxy.. Do you remember the augmenter tube that went with the Jetex 50? I tried it out in a Keil Kraft plane but I don't remember how it went.
My first Jetex boat was the one in the Adamcraft book. It looked better than the yellow plastic one that came with the Jetex models, but not as fast.

Best performance was a KK glider with an option to slot in a 50B motor and that went well. I remember it being pink as I used my mother's nail varnish to finish her!

Ah yes! Anything Jetex or spindizzy brings back wonderful and at times painful memories. I still have 3 or 4 of my Cox or WenMac tethers laying about! Remember this guy? 😊

Oh how the memories start coming back. Like Ed and Rod I made a 'platform' and mounted a Jetex 50 on it, when I was 10 or 11. I think the idea came from an elder brother who was in to making model aeroplanes, some of which were Jetex powered. The Hawker Hunter and Supermarine Swift come to mind.
My first build when 11 was a KeilKraft Mermaid. Nice little boat but a shame I don't know what became of it. I then bought an Aerokits Nymph ready built from a friend and ran it with an ED Bee Marine.
I loved the look of the RAF Crash Tender but it was way out of my league. I did however make a couple of balsa hard chines and from one made a plaster mould and made a fibreglass hull. It never made it to the water however.
With all this experience under my belt, at the age of 12 - 13 I made an auxiliary ketch which I named 'Speedwell', and by some fluke this has survived to the present day. It now has radio control and I sail her occasionally on Yeadon Tarn. This is shown in 'My Harbour'.😉

I had a JETEX rocket motor in junior high school (I was 12-13-14 back then). It's a wonder that i didn't scorch the skin right off my hand. I sanded an airfoil onto the wing of a small handlaunch glider kit. It flew abt 10sec. My parents were nonsmokers, i had to get matches off his business partner whose wife was a chainsmoker. That's the same gent who gifted me a plastic PBY kit...back in the days when sniffing glue was a thing.

This is a picture I found on the internet of a Jetex Swordfish. I built one when I was about 8 or 9 years old.
I vaguely remember it slowly starting to move and then going like hell for about 10 feet. Bit of a damp squib but I was extremely proud of it.
