ARTR Powerboats for a change?

Hi Zooma thanks for your kind words. I am OK with the fitting out but I would think you are well ahead of me for competition.
I did some formal MYA training with dinghy sailing but I did not enjoy the close racing with dinghies.

I used to go sailing with a friend who had a posh yacht and I liked helming her but I realised I wanted to watch a yacht sail. So it was modelling for me.

Our son takes me aboard his yacht, he is a Yachtmster and I have been impressed with his control of emergencies of which there have been two with me aboard. I have a Competent Crew from MYA but my knees can be dodgy!

So a bit of rain and wind come as normal, I even enjoy them. Last year we were caught in an almost zero visibility storm, horizontal rain and screaming wind.
He was calm and in charge and I did as I was told! We got back OK and I was completely wet, socks, underwear, the lot and I had the right gear on as well. But exciting stuff!

ARTR Powerboats for a change?

Hi Roy,

I am pleased to know that you are still active and enjoying your sailing - even in adverse weather when sailing can be even more exciting - and faster too!

Not many of us take our toys out to play in the wind and rain - most stay in their cars or in the clubhouse - and even more don't bother to come at all.....and who could blame them?

As your "junior", I look forward to being as active as you are when I am 86 and I also hope to bump into you at the lakeside one day as I know nothing "worth a mention" about r/c model yacht sailing compared to your experience so it would be good to pick up a few tips!

Stay safe .....and stay active ..👍

ARTR Powerboats for a change?

Hi Zooma you are still a lad to me! 86 next birthday.
Went out sailing as I said and she goes as fast as she has ever been. It did not stop raining and the wind was very gusty, normally stay at home weather.

Difficult getting pictures of her at full speed, but she was going as fast as possible, too heavy to plane. Single wave and and a trough at the stern.

Decided the flying jib was not worth it and I need to re-build the mast so will make adjustments then.

Sailing my Celia May as well fitted a smaller prop and she goes well.

ARTR Powerboats for a change?

This TFL Pursuit should annoy roycv even more because it is bigger and much faster!

Not all ARTR model boats come ready to 'plug and play' - this one needed a steering servo to be installed along with a radio system etc.

Like the Dragon Force yachts that I hope to be sailing shortly, the Pursuit needed "finishing" and "setting-up" for it to run well and to get the best out of it.

I have been running this model for the last 5 years in-between my favourite restored Classic Model Power Boats and it (along with some others) gives me some extra time "on the water" when I am building or restoring (or repairing) other more sensible models.

These quicker ARTR models need to be run with respect for other modellers who may not appreciate being "buzzed" by a fast model like this, so I refrain form running it when others are on the lake and often sail my TID Tug instead - even in the rain and strong winds roycv !

The faster boats do help to keep your "eye to hand co-ordination" nice and sharp and so could even be regarded as therapeutic 🤣

ARTR Powerboats for a change?

I am 74 years old and all grown up roycv ....and I have tried r/c sailing many years ago and quite enjoyed it, but I have always found time for those that enjoy other forms of model boats as well as those that I happen to favour at the moment.

Sailing the Mustang Class at Fleetwood was fun, and I remember sailing in atrocious conditions when all other (more sensible) model boat sailers stayed well away - so I think I probably am a "proper sailer" (by your reckoning) and note your interest in seeing how FAST your yacht is with some amusement - so maybe we are not so different after all?

I also sailed a 1 meter class yacht for a few years and have already registered a sail number for a Dragon Force 65 but I am currently contemplating buying a new Dragon Force 95 too.

Room for everyone I say........and both the Dragon Force models that I am considering are ARTR 😎

Hi get the speed thing out of your system and then go for the sophisticated side of yacht sailing, much more difficult but more rewarding.
Also things are slow enough for all to admire and mistakes are not as costly.

So look forward to 'growing up' and being a proper sailor! Just off in the rain and high wind to really wind up my yacht and see how fast she is!

ARTR Powerboats for a change?

Hi,

I almost bought a artr jet boat but I couldn’t bring myself to spend the £200 plus bill on a artr! So opted to 3d print a JetBoat invest in the motor, esc and ceramic bearings. Also spares are not an issue for me.

Thanks

ARTR Powerboats for a change?

I spend most of my time restoring classic model power boats from the 1960's sort of time period - probably because it reminds me of the models I used to enjoy seeing when I was younger......but now and again I just like to take my ARTR Avanti with me and give it a run - no hassle - no prep - just put it in the water and run it!
The problem is, like all ARTR powerboats, they have a relatively short production run and when the manufacturer stops making them, the essential spare parts supply runs out soon afterwards!
Although still "young to me", my Thunder Tiger Avanti was obsolete some years ago and I cannot find any "official" spare parts, so it becomes more "individual" the longer I keep it 🤣
Does anyone else admit to playing with an ARTR powerboat in-between the more serious stuff now and again?
