You are right Jumpugly, we are the ones (even unconsciously) who give consent, who let us be profiled. A bit like Lucy from Dracula (Lucy Westerna). Do you remember what Bram Stoker wrote about this?

There is an ebb and flow to it Ian. Having been a hack victim in the past I use two-step authentication for all my financials. But, our algorithm based world reads our searches and the inevitable cyber hitchhiking takes place; some if it is harmless, but a lot of it is not.
Report them to your email provider and block them whenever possible. We get a couple everyday and I block and report. It’s a tedious pain in the ass, but par for the course these days.

Sadly the Internet bots they use pick up the searches or interests we have and use them against us.
We just have to stay savvy.

All clear on my end, but ever watchful these days as the hacks are ever present. As my grandad used to say, “we’ll git dem’ bastids!”
Although I don’t think he knew how hard that can be.

Thankfully, I have not been discovered by them .... yet.

This problem is unfortunately the order of the day here in Switzerland, even from sites that I have never visited I get offers for new model boats.
It's best if you click on them as spam right away, the possibility is smaller. But they keep changing their identity, which sometimes brings us to the brink of despair.
I myself open the mails on my provider site from time to time and put the crap mails in spam.
These no longer appear later in my Thunderbird mail program.
Unfortunately, the only way to prevent data theft is to use a second address for registration only.
Your sentence is ringing in my ears:
