I see that some “members” resort to infantile behaviour when their rudeness is highlighted. If anyone disagrees with them they behave like spoilt children and throw tantrums and stamp their feet.
As with children this behaviour is best ignored.

Jumpugly, thank goodness there are people like you.

You wrote a conciliatory and open message, typical of your cheerful and pleasant manner.
You wrote: "unless it's inappropriate, rude, or mean-spirited, etc."
There, that's exactly what many of us are trying to explain: we must be polite and correct above all else.
Instead, with Pat, Brightwork was absolutely offensive.

Luckily, now the attention (or rather, the hatred) isn't just directed at Pat. The targets are me, EdW, Nick, and, most recently, Roy.
Yes, Roy too; in fact, in his latest messages, he even blacklisted good old Roy.
Roy didn't write anything in favor of Pat or against Brightwork, yet he was hit, perhaps because he's climbing the ratings too quickly.
Who knows how many more he'll add?
Brightwork is obsessed with this and has support.

Brightwork wrote on the forum:

"When Alessandro becomes fleet admiral with eight boats and no builds in two years...ya, that's working the system."

Unfortunately, it's true. As a sailor with eight children and two wives (or eight wives and two children?), it was difficult to get by, pay the bills, and buy groceries. Now that I'm an admiral, everything has changed. I live in luxury and comfort, I have a beautiful villa, a beautiful house, a beautiful sailboat—in short, I'm rich.
I'm sorry for Brightwork, but I didn't make the forum rules.
We could start a petition for Brightwork and ask Fireboat to give him some points.
I'll give him 1,000, no, 2,000, or rather 5,000 if he wants.
Or he could ask for a change in the rules, 1,000 points for each boat in the harbor, so he'll be happy and calm and stop crying.

Dear Jumpugly, Brightwork wrote me this privately:
"When an Italian becomes a fleet admiral with eight boats and no builds in two years... ya know, that's the system working. But hey, you're Italian."
That's great information. Actually, double information.
So I discover I'm Italian, very much so.

Dear Jumpugly, a grown-up should have written his complaints to Pat politely and without inappropriate language.
A former member of the Royal Navy deserves more respect, at least not to be ridiculed.

Once the mistake was made, there was no need for all this fuss; an apology to Pat would have been enough and we would all have been happy. Perhaps he was incited and badly advised.

Wolle wrote it well.
"We're not in kindergarten here."
This is getting more and more childish.

Hello my friends! A forum is just that, a forum, and I view it as “open.” So pretty much everything could be on the table; unless it’s inappropriate, rude, or mean spirited etc.
I for one am trying to limit my posts to my builds (which have have slowed of late), and general congrats to the excellent work going on here on the site. And, as you can see, I am only so-so in the trivia department.
Either way, I have enjoyed it all immensely and appreciate the kudos and help I’ve received.
In essence, jump in whenever you want and enjoy.

Hi Ronald, in response to your message (#14), and specifically to this sentence:
[Please send me the “insults and inappropriate language” you are referring to that you are saying I wrote.]
I can tell you that it wasn't you or anyone else who used inappropriate terms; that's clear to everyone.
Only Brightwork wrote "More Crap" or "more crap from the professor" on many of Pat's threads, mockingly calling him "professor." One cartoon featuring the Minion used the term "Idiot."

In response to your message (#15), when you posted photos of your hand and cataract surgeries, no one used rude terms, no one wrote that it wasn't relevant to ship modeling. I liked all your posts and sent you a message wishing you well.
When you talked about your upcoming trip in the topic "Looking Forward to seeing Scotland" no one criticized you, I liked it (and yet it was certainly not a topic pertaining to ship modeling).

I agree with you here, though others have also brought their personal health issues to light.

Collin has had both health and family grief that he shared with the group.

Lew had shared his grief after a hurricane struck his home.

I am not the only one who has shared personal issues but now that the website is for model boat building and not a trivia game, I will only share things about my models.

Point taken

I don’t know what you are referring too when you said, “ I have a question for you.
Is it necessary to use insults and inappropriate language to express this concept?”

Alex
I have taken to drop most of the forum items so did not see anything about your hand surgery or the comments mentioned, however, all I can really say is if there are members that want this form of interaction maybe they should form another forum for GENERAL Knowledge. Hope I did not upset any ones feels but as Ron said I also have been weeding out .

I agree with Ronald, Doug, and Brightworks on the points of trivia questions and the like. Sometimes, out of curiosity, I have checked a few of the responses and the lengthy full of useless data was copied from an online source, maybe several sources. This reveals that the respondents had no idea what the actual answer is.

As for the ranking system, it is for fun only but I feel that some believe they have great nautical knowledge... you know, "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull [s]." I could go on, but I suspect most of you know what I am alluding to.

Hi Ronald, I'm a follower of yours and I respect your opinion, even in this case.

Even if I don't agree, I take your opinion into consideration, but I have a question for you.
Is it necessary to use insults and inappropriate language to express this concept? Is it really necessary to be offensive like Brightwork did?

I have another question for you: How would you have reacted if you received insults and negative comments on the thread where you showed off your hand surgery, if you had been told (in harsh terms) that your personal matters had nothing to do with ship modeling?
Not to mention travel and vacation reports, or meteorological disasters of various kinds (absolutely out of place on a naval modeling site?).
There's no need to use double standards.

Yes Ron,
The Q&A threads have taken an upper hand over the last two years.
I suspect frightening off some potential new members, and some old hands.
One is enough!

Sadly Blackshoe seems to be no longer aboard☹️
I have extenuating circumstances for not continuing my builds and Blogs.
Namely a workshop jammed with 'stuff' from other parts of the house, awaiting removal to the local dump.
Sorry🤔 Municipal Separation and Recycling Centre🙄
Deteriorating health and stamina.
I still try to chip in where I can with help with members problems, building snags, electrickles etc. And admiration for jobs well done.

Interesting to see that Cash is tackling a big Springer tug.
I have a stalled project for a Mini Springer 7" LoA.
Suppose I could finish it on the dining table?
Maybe I'll call it Little Hopper😁
Cheers, Doug😎
Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug

I am in agreement with Brightworks, I am tired of these daily questions and Trivial Pursuit. I have trashed so many of them that any posts from Model_boats.com go in my Junk email instead of the Inbox.

I miss the posts from a few years ago about projects being built. Discussions on various set ups. I have not seen the interesting projects from Blackshoe in sometime. Or Doug’s there in Munich. How about the BearospaceIndustries builders? Whatever happened to hearing about Thames River sailing barges? How to rig your model for better performance?

Is anyone else having these same feelings?

Yes I think times were different back then - I had an oppo that was on a certain British SSN and they were involved in collecting acoustic signatures of Russian boats and ships

When my father was in the DOD he said we could hear both classes from the day they were launched and never lost sight (or earshot) of them, no matter how far away they might be.

Partly right the Alfa was in fact the answer I was after the Papa was a SSBN and not a SSN !!!

1 Both Papa and Alfa class subs were built from titanium and could exceed 40kts

2 Very noisy at speed 🙉

One For The Sundodgers

Again a two parter

1. What was the only class of SSN to be built from Titanium capable of sustained speed of 40 knot plus under water

2. What was the achilles heel of said submarines.

Good luck - that should be an easy question for sundodgers of a fairly modern generation.

Cheers

Pat
