I think you are correct - I only remeber the ones that were really important and applied to the situation I was in
What I do remember when I was taking my exams a book call 'A Seaman's Guide to the Rule of the Road' was the bible and the odd occasion I was stumped in practice there was always a copy of this to refer to nearby

For sailboats over 20 meters: The green and red masthead lights are visible 360 โโdegrees and are optional (not mandatory). The white stern sternlight (with a 135-degree angle) is also mandatory for sailboats. As Pat said, if the boat is powered by a motor, it must also display the white masthead light (225 degrees toward the bow). Two if it is over 50 meters. The side navigation lights have already been mentioned, but I can add that the careful modeler should only make them visible 112 degrees toward the bow (this way, they will only be visible when the boat is viewed from the side or head-on).
This is what I remember after studying the COLREG.

Thank you for your comments much appreciated - I think it was Brightwork's attitude that upset people the most - my old mum had a saying - it's not what you say it's the way you say it !! and i think that its quite true - if you say something in the right manner with the right intentions you can get away with anything :-) Anyway lets try and put things behind us and move forward - this board is a mine of information both on model boats but maritime subjects as well, we have all learnt something from this :-)

Good Morning Chris
The reason I made that post was simple - I was down at the club this morning and there was a guy putting nav lights on his model - he was just making a mess(from lack of knowledge) so I tried telling him what they should be - he honestly did not know, and he was most grateful.
I thought in my nieveity that there might be many more people like that - hence my posting.
Also - do you take everythink on the Internet as gosple - I have found on many occasions it only tells half a story if not completely wrong, dont get me wrong I think the Internet is a useful aid and quick to find an answer to your questions in many cases but I always think you should check what it is saying especially in things that matter.
Just my point of view you may disagree and that is your right but please dont critise poeple genuinely trying to help and impart knowledge on the subject of the board

For those tha put lights on their model they have built - please find enclosed a summary of the correct lights that should be used - these are the correct internation lights.
