Sometimes you just have to wander around the boat yard. I wanted to fit GM DSS radomes on a couple of relatively modern tugboats and other work boots. I was at bluffers in Scarborough the other day and found this derelict Radar Arch. For the radome i used a KINDER SURPRISE

I recently got in touch with the new owners of Kelvin Hughes Radar to try and locate photos or o/a drawings/ dimensions of a historic radar scanner as I only found one photo on the web.

To be honest the Customer support did get back to me, but they were told that this information is "intellectual property" and thus couldn't be released. I ended up using the grainy photo that was freely available.

Nowadays everybody is just in "chase the money" mode, if there is no $ in it for them, they are not interested in talking with you or helping

Quite a shift in attitude from the days when Mitsubishi sent me a stack of drawings, i wanted to build a model of the most popular twin engine drug-runner

Hello everyone,
Yes, it's frustrating. I've even experienced this at our hobby shop. At the moment, the trend is towards fast cars and lorries of all kinds.
That's why I love this website even more! And when you meet like-minded people, just ask questions! If you don't ask, you won't get an answer.
😍😍😍
A big thank you to everyone who has helped me here! You can see it in the example of Ron and Roy!
Keep your chin up, yours sincerely

Ron! Ran into the same issue with the RNLI when I inquired about a specific Mersey or Trent class boat.
No reply to multiple queries.
Bummer!

Nicely done Ring-Netter, Roy.

I found her, Roy. Plus many more contacts.

Hi Ronald, I found contacting the Fisheries museum excellent. I had an almost immediate response from Linda, senior curator, who was more than helpful.
Did you use the web sites in your enquiries?

I did send her pictures and definite questions about a model fishing boat I had bought on Gumtree.
I explained what I wanted to do with it as it was built as a decorative model etc.

Contacting people with their own boats might be less rewarding, they tend to talk with other boat owners.

Hi All, some of you like Harry, Andy, Roy and a couple others have responded to me regarding Scottish fishing vessels which is most appreciated. But what is the most frustrating thing about this is that the organizations behind the actual full sized working vessels haven’t answered one of my enquiries!

The Scottish Fishing Museum
The North East Maritime Trust
The owner of the vessel, Comet, Billy Milne
The Wick Heritage Museum

The very vessel that I saw in Stromness, it’s owners or past owners have been contacted via their email contact information and no answer.

Even contacted via email, the Ship Yard from where it was built and received no reply (yes it is still in business)

Maybe they don’t like Canadians, eh!
