Hey Dave!
As a keen motorcyclist, cool trips are no problem for me! 😍😍😍
In June and July, my wife usually joins me on my camper van tours . . .
But exceptions prove the rule . .
We'll see how everything goes with your tour.

Michel,
Yes, that would be great. It looks like you are 1+ hours from Basel.
As I mentioned to Ian, at this point I don't know how much time we will have in Basel.
However, We will be in Lucerne June 28 & 29 of 2027!
That may be an easier meet-up for you?

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.
Hei Ian,
Melde es mir, komme auch hoch zum Treffen!!
Michel-C.
Hey Dave!
It would be amazing to meet two Swiss model boat builders.
I could test my school English right away...
Michel-C.
Ian,
I'm not sure how much time we will have in Basel. It looks like we get in and fly out the same day.
As I know more about the schedule, I'll keep you in the loop.
Maybe have time for a coffee (or beer) anyway!

Dave,
damn . . . you caught me off guard. I'm afraid I'll have to go back to Chat GPT to find out when the replacement took place.
By the way, I should be in Basel around Oct. 20. If you require a guide or advance-info, don't hesitate.

Ian,
Choose your American insults carefully ...
I will be getting off a riverboat in Basel October 20th.
I'd hate to have to debate you on American ignorance ... 🤣
All kidding aside, when did Bern replace Sweden as capital??
Dave B
PS No insults taken personally ... 😁

I had a little chat with Chat GPT this morning. Their answer seems to make everything clear regarding SVEA:
"In the context of boat names, **“Svea” isn’t an acronym or technical term — it’s a name with cultural and historical meaning that many owners choose.
🇸🇪 Meaning of Svea
Svea is a Swedish female name that literally comes from the old term for the people and land of Sweden — the Svear or Swedes.
As a given name, it basically means “Swede” or “Swedish woman.”
Historically, Moder Svea (“Mother Svea”) is the personification of Sweden, similar to “Uncle Sam” for the USA.
🌊 Why it’s used for boats
Maritime traditions often give boats strong, symbolic, or national-identity names. Svea is popular especially for Swedish vessels because:
It evokes national pride and heritage (“Mother Sweden”).
It’s a feminine, memorable name, fitting the tradition of naming ships with female names.
It connects a vessel to Swedish culture or origin, even if the boat itself is internationally owned or built.
So, when you see Svea in several boat types (e.g., research ships, classic yachts, motor yachts), it’s usually chosen as a name meaning Sweden or the Swedish spirit, not because of a special nautical abbreviation or code."

SVEA probably simply stands for "swedish". The country calls itself Sverige and the adjective is svenska. Colin Archer, on whose design this model most probably goes back to, was a Norwegian. But in the end its all scandinavian. Ian
PS: for our friends from the ever greater United States of A. :Sweden is not the capital of Switzerland or the other way round. And Swaziland is something quite other again . . . no insult intended!

Thanks so much for this information about "Nordic Class Boats."
It is always interesting to find out some history and I am happy one "Svea" made it's way here in the New York area.
Here is a drawing from Turkmodel's catalog.
PS: Ron, I think Svea is a generic name as I could not find a specific Fishing Boat boat named Svea.

What do these words mean?
Fiskebaten Svea
The Fishing Boat Svea
Now, go on to YouTube and look it up.
You get SVEA J-Class Yacht, SVEA sailfish, and sailing SVEA not the J-class but just a sailboat.
Add the word Trawler and you will get s myriad of hits but none will resemble this kits.
Sorry!
Ahhh, a real beauty! I love Colin Archer double-enders; not least because my father-in-law owned a 75 foot Colin Archer ketch, which was so seaworthy he took his standard crew for the annual Easter sailing bout in - what I call - terrible conditions (up to Beaufort 9 . . .).
Some info I found may interest you:
"Nordic Class Boats is a Swedish manufacturer that has launched a whole range of kits based on Northern European models. The kits, made of wood, cast metal and plastic parts, are manufactured by Nordic Class Boats using modern machinery.
Due to the unexpected death of the owner, production of the models was discontinued in 2016. The ship models are now available again. Optimised manufacturing and simplified delivery routes have made it possible to reduce the prices of many Nordic Class Boats models".

Krick, however, does not offer the Svea; but Cornwall Models does for 220 £, a very moderate price for a 43" model.

Good Day Michel-C
Yes those lawn chairs, this is a private vessel conversion from a fishing vessel to a family’s “powered Yacht”.
The sketch is rather faint, but the owner sent it to me to illustrate a galley and the forward berth. He said the two tanks seen below the wheelhouse one was water and the other fuel.

Hello and good Morning Jumpugly,
These are great photos of Ronald! Have you seen all the equipment? There are deckchairs too, which is starting to make me wonder . .
Is this a holiday ship or a place of work?
Questions upon questions from a landlubber. 🤣🤣🤣

I don’t like these Generic models, but maybe folks will be saying that about my builds.
The drawing is the Selma given to me by the former owner.

Hey Gang:
A good friend showed me this large (43") and very robust kit from his mammoth collection. It's the Fiskebaten Svea Trawler by Nordic Class Boats. I was incredibly impressed by the amount of pre-cutting and the grade quality and weight of the wood. Has anyone built one and if so, how did you like it? Opinions and comments appreciated!
