Dave,
Thank you for digging through your files and posting those additional photos. The more I look at the Pilar, the more I appreciate the craftsmanship that went into her. She is a beautiful model and obviously built by someone with a lot of talent.
Don't sell yourself short. Bringing neglected models back to life takes a different set of skills, patience, and dedication. Judging by the work you've done on these boats, I think you'll do just fine when you decide to tackle a full build of your own.
Thanks again for sharing the photos. Every one of them helps!

I know I do .... somewhere ....
I looked a little when I posted before, and the one I posted is the only one I found quickly.
I'll do a little more digging.
I do know that he scaled it down from the original full size plans ....

PS As much as I love that boat, I'm embarassed to say I evidently don't have many pictures of it. I searched, and found a couple more, though.

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Great model! Do you have any more pictures of her?
This is definitely a model to be proud of.
The craftsmanship, woodwork, and attention to detail are outstanding. I especially like the figures and the overall presentation—they really bring the model to life and give it character.
Thanks for sharing it with us.
I'd love to see more photos from different angles and perhaps some details of the interior and deck fittings.

I'm excited to follow the progress of the Pilar kit.
One of our club members scratch built a gorgeous model of her last year.

*+Another Update on the Upcoming Hemingway Pilar Model+*
I just received another update from Carlos, the Production Manager at Model Expo.
According to Carlos, the first release of the Pilar will be a static display model measuring approximately 16 inches in length.
In addition, within the next two weeks Model Expo is expected to release the new Midwest version of The Fireboat, which many of you may recognize from the build log I posted here on the forum.
Following the release of The Fireboat, Model Expo plans to introduce a larger 32-inch radio-controlled version of the famous Hemingway yacht Pilar.
This is exciting news for both static model builders and RC enthusiasts, as the larger Pilar promises to offer plenty of opportunities for customization and scale detailing.
I will continue to post updates, specifications, and photos as soon as I receive additional information from Carlos and the Model Expo team.
Stay tuned!

Model Expo to Release the Historic Yacht *Pilar* by Ernest Hemingway
Exciting news for maritime history enthusiasts and model builders alike! Model Expo is preparing to release a new ship model kit featuring the famous yacht *Pilar*, the beloved vessel of legendary American author Ernest Hemingway.
The *Pilar* was Hemingway's personal 38-foot fishing boat and played a significant role during his years in Cuba. Acquired in 1934, the yacht accompanied Hemingway on countless fishing expeditions in the Gulf Stream and became an important part of his life and adventures at sea. Many historians believe the experiences Hemingway gained aboard the *Pilar* helped inspire his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel *The Old Man and the Sea*.
Beyond its literary connection, the *Pilar* also holds a unique place in history. During World War II, Hemingway used the boat in an unusual effort to patrol Cuban waters for German submarines. Although the mission was largely unofficial, it added another fascinating chapter to the vessel's story.
Following Hemingway's departure from Cuba in 1960, the *Pilar* remained in the country and was eventually entrusted to its longtime captain and friend, Gregorio Fuentes. Today, the historic yacht is preserved at Hemingway's former home, Finca Vigía, near Havana, where it remains one of the most visited attractions associated with the famous author.
The upcoming Model Expo kit promises to bring this iconic vessel to life for modelers who appreciate both maritime history and literary heritage. Additional details regarding scale, specifications, contents, and availability are expected soon.
I will post complete information, photographs, and specifications as soon as I receive them from the Production Manager at Model Expo.
Stay tuned for further updates on what promises to be a very unique addition to the world of ship modeling.
