Fire Float information

Hi Doug
Here is a section from wikipedia re PDF vulnerabilities
Viruses and exploits
PDF attachments carrying viruses were first discovered in 2001. The virus, named OUTLOOK.PDFWorm or Peachy, uses Microsoft Outlook to send itself as an attachment to an Adobe PDF file. it was activated with Adobe Acrobat, but not with Acrobat Reader.[54]

From time to time, new vulnerabilities are discovered in various versions of Adobe Reader,[55] prompting the company to issue security fixes. Other PDF readers are also susceptible. One aggravating factor is that a PDF reader can be configured to start automatically if a web page has an embedded PDF file, providing a vector for attack. if a malicious web page contains an infected PDF file that takes advantage of a vulnerability in the PDF reader, the system may be compromised even if the browser is secure. Some of these vulnerabilities are a result of the PDF standard allowing PDF documents to be scripted with JavaScript. Disabling JavaScript execution in the PDF reader can help mitigate such future exploits, although it does not protect against exploits in other parts of the PDF viewing software. Security experts say that JavaScript is not essential for a PDF reader, and that the security benefit that comes from disabling JavaScript outweighs any compatibility issues caused.[56] One way of avoiding PDF file exploits is to have a local or web service convert files to another format before viewing.

On March 30, 2010 security researcher Didier Stevens reported an Adobe Reader and Foxit Reader exploit that runs a malicious executable if the user allows it to launch when asked.

I think we all just learned something Ed 👍

An 'Unannounced upgrade'!! 😉
So now we know 👍
Haven't bothered to click on a pdf for months.
I had heard excuses like 'for security reasons maybe the provider blocks PDFs'. if that were the case more than half the international commerce would collapse! I used PDFs (encrypted!) for years to send system specs and contract drafts around the world, and receive ships GAs and tender specs from navies and shipyards.
Anyway, All's well that ends well'😉 Thanks Rob 😎

Click on the PDF icon as if it is a picture, then in the left hand top corner you'll see 'Download' click on that to download the file.

Works for me.

Try that and let me know.

Hi Rob, sorry but we 'don't see no images' 😉
You can't upload PDFs cos the server won't allow it / there is no handler for PDFs. You can only post image files: JPEG, PNG etc.
Snip the images out of the PDF as JPEGs using 'Snipping Tool'.
Check the links I published above, there's a lot of stuff there and it grows all the time. 😊 Doug 😎

Oh... I wish I had all that info on the mysterious 'Ministry' book !
The illustrations you see were supplied to me by the wonderful chaps at 'Vintage Model Workshop', not sure where they got them from but that's all they have too.

Hi Rob, you need to post the source link for the PDFs!!
Can you give me the title, author and ISBN cat number of the book?
All three would be great, but any one would be good! Cheers Doug 😎

Hi Javro.

Are these helpful?
They are .pdf's so you will need to download them.
Very few 'photos and film exist of these boats and somewhere there's a 'Ministry of Supply' book from which these illustrations came from that I really wish I could track down.

Good morning, in the Plans and Doc's section, it contains the info on the RAF Fire Float, i am looking for info on the towing arm, size and any close ups, also is it possible to download some of the photos??? I will be displaying my 46" model at some local shows and am compiling a small file of info to display together with the boat.
