Will contact Ed(Figtree)Doug, his last build was an American tug, so he might have some pointers for me on my build.😊

Thanks Nerys, I'm sure other modelers will assist in various sections of the build. I had been building plastic kits for about 50 years, mainly for retail shops,
and then started building/flying model planes for some 35 years, until I started to lose sight of the models, then took up boat building/sailing about 10 years ago, still learning😉
cheers, Peter

Hiding your whatsit under a bushel of thingummybob again Nerys?😉
I'm sure, from what I've seen so far, that whatever you build you'd make a cracking job of it!
Have to admit though that if we have the ultimate expert on US Eastern Sea Board Tugs on here - it has to be Commodore Ed (Figtree).
He not only builds superb models of 'em like Ford built Model-Ts, he actually worked on 'em as well!! (NO! Not the Model Ts U 'orrible lot😠) Before he got shanghaied into the navy😁
Have fun with the kit Peter👍 Sure Ed will assist where he can.
Cheers, Doug 😎

That's very nice of you Peter, but there are a lot more experienced modellers on the forum than me. I've been studying boats of all sorts since I was a kid and that's a long time now, but I've only been building models for two years.

Cheers,
Nerys.

Hi Peter,
I've had a look at the Dumas kits and yes, she's a typical Eastern Seaboard tug. Looks great, wouldn't mind having a go at one myself. Sure you'll enjoy her.

Not to sure if it's a traditional American tug Nerys,
it has a very high bridge, almost level with the funnel,
strange but nice, will post a picture when I get the boat.

Pleased you managed to get your tug Peter. Will look forward to seeing her progress and finished model. Take it she is a typical traditional American tug.

Cheers,

Good news Martin, made an offer on the boat, and have been accepted, only problem is boat is in Liverpool, and I'm off on holiday, so will have to wait until 23rd to go and get it, will post a piccy of it, it's a Dumas kit of a Jersey City Tugboat.

Doug,
You could always get an apprentice, or teach the GF.
Anyway you're never alone on here.
We all would like to relive our past and possibly even make the same mistakes.
If it wasn't for a mistake then I would never have met my Caroline.
One thing I hope I can make the right mistakes so that I can continue to learn.
Cheers Colin.

Doug,
Open the sunroof and drop a hoist through the gearstick hole.
That's how Caroline did it in my Shogun whilst I was ill.
She then rebuilt the main gear box and splitter box, (in the kitchen).
But alas I don't think I could crawl about under them anymore. So I now supervise Caroline on minor jobs like suspension and brakes, but for heavier work I have to supervise my son, I stick to the easy jobs like welding and minor mods.
Cheers Colin.

"I often think about doing that sort of thing again."
Me too Colin👍
But now I don't have the garage or forecourt space I had in UK.
And finally I had to admit that if I managed to crawl under a car I would never get out again🤔
Can't see me lying on my back under a Rover 2000 lifting a Borg Warner auto box back in ever again!!😉
Cheers, Doug 😎

I often think about doing that sort of thing again. I stuck a 2.8 granada engine into a mk1 2 door cortina gt. Went like stink but lousy brakes, had to drop the gears to slow down at motorway speed. Or my Thames 15cwt van. I put a 2557cc zodiac engine and a 4 speed box in, which then I added a set of jaguar brakes from my wrecked mk2. Now that was a fun drive, often got her on 2 wheels, so to keep Caroline happy I layed 2inch thick slabs in the back and covered with carpet. It handled really well then. Kept it for 6 months then my dad offered me his 220d Mercedes in straight swop. He wanted to use it as a mobile workshop for his engineering business. I started to like foreign cars after that.

"and then I hit a patch of ice and wrote it off, with only 3rd party insurance,"
Commiserations Colin! That's the way my souped up Minx went 😭
So I started again with the wreck of a Triumph Herald!
Turned it into a "Vitesse in sheep's clothing"! 😁

Just another passion for old cars of my era. The only car I didn't manage to sell for a profit was my 3.8s mk2 jag. I drove it into the ground 473000mls and then I hit a patch of ice and wrote it off, with only 3rd party insurance, but as a teenager that's all I could afford.

No I didn't Martin, had the cash, and the OK from the boss, but really didn't like the tug, been looking at one on Ebay that I quite fancy, will have to see if I can bid enough to get it.😐

Number 6 is a tricky one Doug, was going to put the answer up, but Colin got it dead right, (sorry no prize Colin), loads more cars to photo, but battery let me down!☹️

Now that's what I call a car that maroon lagonda is superb. And the 220 diesel Mercedes brings back memories. As a lad I had a few mk1 cortinas and a Pa Cresta. But my favourite car of all time was a 1965 Humber Imperial.. Certainly couldn't afford to run any of them these days.

Also at the boat show was a classic car show, so I thought I would put a few piccys on, just to see if anyone is old enough to remember these!😐

As promised, report on the boat show/open day at
Kirklees MBC Yorkshire.
Some lovely boat on the water and on display, took just a small selection, a couple of bargains were there, a big tug kit by Mobile Marine, complete with graupner 900bb motor and 75mm brass prop, all for £150!
