Brilliant Martin. I think he needs a guitar player with him.😁
I cannot promise to finish one project before starting another. I know, I tried.

Hi Bill,

No, I'm sorry I have no pictures of his work at all. In my childhood he made me loads of model boats, from waterline models when he was at home to larger models when he was away at sea, A model of the Breaksea light vessel coming to mind. She was mooored off Barry, where we lived. In latter years he did a lot of woocarving from miniature figureheads to chinese style chests. My sister has most of these at her home in France. As a matter of interest he designed a number of ships badges for the Prince Line Shipping Co. my sister has miniature replicas of these that he was given by Prince Line. If I manage to get over there again, I will photograph everything.

Ships. He only held two commands during the war. LST368, all the landings in the North African and Italian campaigns. There was also an armed trawler capable of three knots that he took from Simonstown (Aouth Africa) to Colombo (Sri Lankar). Rest of the time he had shore jobs, like Extended Defence officer for the Maldives. Boarding Officer in South Africa, Thames Turqo (ship movements in the Thames around and after D Day.

Cheers, Nerys

Then even more congratulations Martin. You'll be whittling all the members of your crew on your next model. A childhood memory, I remember when my father was at home 'between ships' before WW2 he decided to do a bit of whittling and produced several small wooden figures for me. My favourite was a cowboy sitting on his, carved separately, horse. I treasured it for years.

All the best, Nerys

That's a lovely example of whittling. Is he a one off or do you often produce similar pieces? A talent I have always admired

Hi Bill,
The only reason the peek is at the back is because the kids nowadays don't know if they are coming or going or if they have already been. LOL!!

Hi Martin.
Love it.Brilliant effort.
You have a previously undisclosed talent.
Tell me, where did you find the cap with the peak at the back.
I see so many youngsters these days wearing the peak at the back and when I ask them...Please tell me where I can buy a cap with the peak at the back instead of the front they look at me as if I have gone mad....Perhaps I have 🤓🤓

Excellent Martin👍

Takes a lot of time to carve something like that in 3D.

I think he would look fantastic if he were automated. That would really make us smile 😆

Hi Guys,

This is “Skins” And he is my first ever attempt at a bit of wood carving.
I only had a piece of pine wood with plenty of knots in it, but i have learnt a lot about carving through this little exercise.
I originally planned on making an Automata but did not consider this good enough to continue.
I must admit it dose make me smile when i see it.

No electrical tools were used in the making of “Skins” all done by hand.

In these difficult and worrying times I hope this will put a smile on your face too.
