Thanks for the reminder Mike.
I've just made an additional contribution to make up for the shortfall for when I subscribed earlier this month.
The gold medal 'aint worth it for that !!
And it means that Stephen doesn't get short changed by PayPal on subscriptions.😊

Worth every penny 👍👍😁
Happy New Year everybody.
Looking forward to a less S****y 2021 😉

Just a reminder, I thought I'd just bump it to the top again and ask if those who don't contribute could they please consider making a contribution in this, a New Year and hopefully a fresh start for everyone - and the web site

Cheque Books are no longer used in SA.
Paypal seems the most likely way for me!

Living in SA and retired I thought the GBP1.00 per month would be helpful! But as per the figures supplied this is not really beneficial to the site.
So I will make also single donations next year to keep the wonderful website up and running, starting in Feb 2021

Hi Stephen.
I was just about to make a donation when I saw your reply on the matter.
Quite happy to do anything other than PayPal or cheque,(I don't even have a cheque book these days!).
Let us all know what alternatives you can offer.

Good on ya's Mike and Rob👍
Yeah, sometimes I get something right Rob😁

Stephen,
To circumnavigate PayPal I'd be happy to donate via a simple SWIFT / SEPA bank transfer.
I can set this up as a Standing Order (Subscription) and also select to absorb the relatively miniscule bank fee (compared to PayPal) at this end. Thus the full intended contribution goes to the site.
Have a chat with your bank about setting up some kind of Escrow account for this, as a security protection / buffer for your own personal / site account.
Cheers, Doug 😎
PS I haven't used or even seen a cheque for about 20 years or more!!

Hi All,

On the topic of PayPal fees; it’s quite true that 12 donations of £1 ends up being less than 1 donation of £10, simple due to the accumulated transaction fees.

I’d love to offer alternative ways to contribute, what do people have in mind? Cheques and BACS?

I do have a contactless card reader if anyone wants to drop by 🤣

I’m also considering other options for PayPal like quarterly or half yearly which would reduce a little of the fees they charge.

I agree with all that's been said especially about non donators. Since subs seem to be the only option of a low donation then maybe Stephen could alter the single donation for lower amounts for those who can't afford £10
PS just done my annual donation

Hi Doug.
Thanks for the update. Seems you were quite correct then!
It's unfortunate that the only payment options offered for contributions and subs is via PayPal. Perhaps there's a better way to do this that Stephen could set up?
I'm happy to remedy the shortfall with a supplementary donation.😊

Hi All,
Stephen has confirmed my suspicions about PayPal re monthly subscriptions vs one donation:-
"Subscriptions of just £1/m equate to £8.04 a year (£3.96 to PayPal😝). Whilst a single £10 one-off donation is £9.41 (59p to PayPal😋)"
Bit of a difference what!
Cheers, Doug 😎

We all get a tremendous amount of enjoyment from this site that I feel it only right to support it with donations. I have always been surprised that a high proportion of members do not. I would have thought that seeing a medal on one's avatar would be sufficient to encourage a donation.

Cheers, Nerys

I contribute twice a year, Jan/Feb and July/Aug, directly.
I have the feeling that a Subscription of small monthly amounts creates unnecessary net traffic and probably increased deductions by PayPal. My objective being maximum value to the site.
Haven't taken the time to prove this theory but that's my feeling.
Main thing is the continued existence and growth of this wonderful site. Thank you Stephen👍
Boy am I glad I found it😀😊
Cheers All, and more power to your shekels and batteries😁
