Hi Ron,
Stephen just advised me that the problem is now fixed.
Just tested it with the pic that caused the problem with my post and it woiked 😀, see attached.
I had previously tried to add it to my 'Brass pins' post and got the same error message as you.
So you should be able to complete your post now👍
Cheers, Doug 😎
Curious Stephen; your post had hijacked my pic!!

Posting files:
The fatal error when you submit posts with attachments has been fixed now. Indeed the newer server software caused this. Seems it's not happy with some elements of code that the previous version used to ignore.

Likes notifications:
All notifications were ones that should have gone out in the past but didn't at the time. To avoid bombardment, I did cancel the remaining 'old' notifications from going out. Of course all new ones will still come through as and when they happen.

Some good news:
Maybe I'm speaking too early here, but it looks like emails are working well at the moment. They're arriving within a minute of the event occurring on the website. Now I've said it, it'll probably all change!

Attempting not to adjust the sails so much today and to leave things be as much as possible 🤞😎

Hi Ron, That's happened to me a couple of times as well, both times a post with attachments; a pdf file and a screenshot pic. I removed the pic and the post worked.
I've informed Stephen and he's looking at it.
May have something to do with a new Server software 🙄

"got loads of 'liked your post' messages, I think they were old ones!"
Pete, Colin, Most of them were, some going back 3 years or so.
But it does explain why for months I have noticed more Likes on the actual posts on site than I had received Liked Notifications for!
Had been wondering who the 'secret admirer was 😁😂
I trust we have now cleared the backlog and things will return to normal.🤞
Whatever that is 🙄

Thanks Stephen,
Took some time to research and compile that Post.
So I was somewhat dismayed to see that it appeared to have gone wrong!

Intermingled were a few new Forum and Blog posts 👍
Have just spent about 6 hours sorting them out, still some way to go!!

Stephen,
There is a fatal message attached to Doug's post in the yep 120a thread.

The best thing you can do is mark them as not spam and back into your inbox. This teaches the system that they are valid emails and applies the logic to others using the same email provider.

I'm trying to fix the domain verification part also, which doesn't help the case.

I'm not sure if it's magic touch or blind luck 😁

It seems to be operating normally at the moment. Let's hope it stays that way 🤞

Thanks for the kind words.

Good afternoon Stephen, I don't know what you did but obviously your magic touch is working, have just received 31 email messages.
Thanks for all your hard work, I'm sure you are appreciated by all who use this marvellous ( worlds best) model boat site.
Cheers Colin.

It's been a headache few days and I'm not sure we're through the storm yet.

Ultimately the ship will be more stable once I've stopped meddling with the sails.

Changed:
- Server software updated v7.3 - v8.0 (apparently faster)
- Database capacity doubled (space to grow and also a newer version)
- Emails (still slow as ever and being received as "could not verify model-boats.com actually sent this", increasing the likelihood they'll land in SPAM) - so still working on this part.

Apologies if the site goes offline here and there 😔 if anyone is good with setting up DKIM protocols, let me know 👍

Have received some notification knowing full well Stephen is working on the issue. We all seem to miss the posts to our email.I like that I see there is something new to see or read or someone viewing my post.I enjoy reading a blog and finding out what others are building. To comment or get a comment knowing as builders we look at each others work with appreciation for that work. We all have different skill sets but we all love this hobby.

Hi Vice Admiral Colin,
Congratulations on your promotion.

Unfortunately we are still having troubles with the email notifications.
Stephen is still on the case and working on this problem as we speak.

I think I have received two notifications in the last two days.
It appears to me that a lack of notifications generates fewer answers, people do not bother to look through the forum threads if they do not have something, ( a notification) to take them there. Thus the less notifications, the less interest and the less answers.

Lucky you Pete 😉
I ain't got nun since 20:53 (19:53) UK time 🤔
But then the 'Trending Topics' column is also out of synch!
Still (at 01:30 CET, 00:30 UK) lists Rick's message from 6 hours ago as the current post.
Also in Redbaron's thread yep120a Trending Topics still lists Colin's post of 7 hours ago as the latest. Not mine of 16 minutes ago or Rooky's of 2 hours ago. 🤔

The situation is... 😆

Last time (two weekends ago) the web host (IONOS) blocked the sending of emails from the server directly - this was resolved after a communication with them.

This time (this weekend) there's no explanation from IONOS and they insist to continue sending emails that I must setup a webmail account and link up the SMTP details of that to a new mailer function - all fine, except you're limited to 50 recipients per hour and we have new topics that go out to 300 at a time. I'm trailing an idea to get around this.

This morning the code was updated and notifications did work for a while, but as mentioned, it stopped (this is the only one I'll accept responsibility for! 😋). The code wasn't binning out failed sends, getting itself stuck in an endless loop of trying.

Another code change has just been made and it looks like today's backlog is gradually coming down. So they'll be a few old notifications coming through until it catches up.

Hopefully that'll be the end of it once it's caught up 🤞
