If the plans are a PDF file (or even if not, easy enough to convert them to one), I tend to use Adobe or a PDF viewer. I then tile print (the whole plan divided into however many sheets of A4 or A3 for any who don't know that term).

As Doug says, if you can print them on A3 rather than A4 sheets, then A, you use half as many and B, there's less lining up to do.

When I print the plans out, I can decide what % I want to print them depending on what size I want the boat to be. I have a few now that I have printed that were a bit small for my liking at the suggested scale, so I have just increased the print size/% to what I want.

The easier, but more expensive way is of course taking plan to a printers, having them copy it at the scale you request.

If there is more them one page, double check the scale measurement on each prior to cutting any parts. I had four sheets and had them enlarged by a printer and half way through construction found an difference which caused a problem or two.

    Hi Rodney,
So far so good with the advice already given.
But to answer your question definitively we need a vital piece of info πŸ˜‰
I.e. What scale is your A4 drawing and what scale do you want?
Or to put it another way;-
How long is the hull on your drawing and how long do you want to build it?

With his suggestion Martin has assumed that the hull profile and plan views are spread over several A4 pages. I have several plans like that, and it's a pain in the derrière getting them lined up correctly for taping!☹️ I possess an A3 printer so at least I can halve the problem by combining two A4 pages in my drawing software ensuring correct alignment 😊

I suspect though that in fact your plan shows the hull profile and plan, i.e. Length Over All, on a single A4 drawing.
    Which is correct?

    Supplementary question(s) 😁
Do you have any sort of Drawing or Graphics software available to you?
Do you have an A3 printer, or access to (friend or family)?
    Cheers Doug 😎
PS Can you post the Internet link (address) where you found the plan?

There is the simple and time saving method by going to a printers that print drawings to scale for builders and the like or, there is the time consuming and cheap way of doing it yourself. Buy a roll of decent paper off the internet and also buy yourself a Sketch-a-Graph tool. These items will set you back probably around Β£25 - 30, but the tool you will have for as long as required and the roll of paper will serve for your next projects. I have used the Sketch-a-Graph several times and owned one for over 40 years. Worth their weight in gold when you wish to increase or reduce plans.

    Hi Rodney,

I would suggest you go to a print shop but before you do give this a go.

You can still print on to A4 paper and tape them together.

    Here is a link.
