Hi Nerys, I think they are going to preserve her once a proper shed has been built. The position next to the museum is only temporary till they get her under cover, from what I can gather. Unfortunately there are no photos and only a sketch someone did on her launch day to go off. They may rebuild the missing bits, deck etc (I'm sure there are a few boat builders itching to rebuild her as a project) and perhaps guess at the rig, but it will be interesting to see what happens.

It would be great to see her done up, even with a bit of 'licence' on the rig. I'm sure some info will turn up from someones' old family photos in the future, or perhaps from a museum,- just a matter of someone spotting a pic of her at a wharf or similar. There'll be a pic or photo somewhere.

Excellent video. I take it that this is a preservation job rather than a restoration, whichever a worthy project. Must have been a huge amount of work to get her out of the sand. Well done NZ.

Found another vid on the boat haulage company website which might be of interest. Bit over the top with a traditional Maori welcome home to the boat, but some good close ups of the construction,- even the rudder gudgeons are still there !

The Daring has now been moved from her initial stop at Helensville and has been taken North about 60km to Mangawhai, to a temporary 'berth' next to the museum,- ( see item) and map

What covid rules Martin !? we're in Godzone, we don't have that here😁 our 'kind' PM, 'Bucky' Adern will protect us, lol. Seriously though, we are sort of doing it automatically now,- we have been well trained/brainwashed😁 Just so long as the sheep don't catch it, then we'd be in troubleπŸ˜‚

Yes please JB, if you see anything about her or go to see her, please keep me posted. I'm always interested to hear about the restoration of any old ships, but particularly small coastal sailing craft.

    Cheers, Nerys
