Hi all I really liked that picture. It is by Joseph Kernon and I found another of his paintings with the same subject including a better view of the small schooner he is holding.

Maybe a relation or the old fellow next door but the sailing boat looks like it exists. Is the hull in shadow in the other picture?

Yard Sale Find
I am continuing with that yard sale find the Puffer is done so on to the next . I'm not keen on static sailing ships but I can't pass up a project like a major repair of the 1765 USS Bonhomme Richard . She will have no sails but have all the rigging . We always have turkey for thanksgiving a day early so I have some time to today to play.

I have a Dumas 53" PT Boat kit that has been 75% built by a master builder. I am offering this kit free with pick-up at my home. The kit includes motors. I am a vintage RC flyer and wish to find a good home for the kit. e-mail: joeskits@frontier.com or call: 828-399-9772

Sand Francisco Model Yacht Club
San Francisco Model Yacht Club had their open house and show on Sept 15 weekend. They are located at Golden Gate Park on Spreckels Lake. They also have a Clubhouse at that location. These are a few photos of this event.

Try using \16 scale and fully posable Dr Who or Torchwood figures available from charity shops at only 50 pence or so each.

If you can find them !!!

Even less at car boot sales -- So keep looking all you model boat enthusiasts!!

Dr John F Leeds and Bradford MBC. 😊😊😊 ( I am really far too old to be a bl****y Midshipman!!!))

Miss Carlton
I thought I would post this here for those in the UK who may have built the model of this boat. 1963 "Miss Carlton" on sea trials. This is a Press photo.

I like the copyright and filing info on the back of the photo. I used to work in the BBC TV News picture library and we had thousands up thousands of pictures like that in the basement. We could still access most of them within five minutes. too.

My recently refurbished 1/12th Scale Brede Lifeboat
Modelled on RNLB 33 - 07 Inner Wheel towards the later end of her service when the enclosed radar had been replaced by the Furuno rotating array. I know its to fast for scale speed but I was enjoying its first outing post refurbishment!

What is this boat?
Has anyone seen a model or plans for a boat like the one I found on holiday. I was in Elounda Crete when I came across this and thought what a lovely model it would make.

lighting
Just answering a question about the club run at night & yes some guys go overboard with lighting hope I can photo some of the more exotic lighted model boats. Here is my Gumboot Cloggeroo lobster model boat with a few lights . That name is a song by Stompin Tom Connors a Canadian song writer .

I try and keep mine as they would be in real life, this is just one of my tugs.
The reason they are so bright is that a few of the members of my old club could not see the duck house in day light, let along a model boat.

If you are looking for very low cost lighting ( that is not scale ), I purchased extra blinking bicycle lights that are battery powered. These are small cubes that emit red or white and I am sure others as well.

I just place it on my boat and let it go at my pond. They are bright and fun to watch.

Andrea Gail
The model boat club I'm in will hold a boats in the park at night on Thursday Sept.19th at 6:30 P.M. At Spencer's pool in Burlington . We do get a lot of spectators that enjoy the lighted model boats So I figured I'd better install some lights on my Andrea Gail the photo isn't that good but it will have to do for now. P/S installing lights sure is a pain ! And I'll take a few shots when it's darker.

SSMBC (Seminole, Florida, USA) meet on Sept 1, 2024
A short "in the water" video take at our meet. (Other boats were present, but I only got in a few photos.) My last Springer build finally hit the water. Still kind of hot (~90F), waiting for fall to arrive.

Now you need a barge for that lovely Springer.

Peejay, no barge for this one as it (real one) is a "stoplog" boat that operates at the Little Goose Dam on the Snake River out in Washington State (US). It is used to prevent logs and debris from entering the lock an intakes for the hydro-electric generators. The real one is owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers.

I'm thinking of making a bunch of logs for it to move around. Did you notice the crew man on the bow with a logging pole?
