Bet you had fun on that Trev, love the old Farmalls. Couldn't afford one of the big ones (sought after by collectors here, and not many left which aren't in collections) so had to settle for the A. Drove a big Inter when I worked on a cotton farm in Australia ( model 1066,- I think,-similar to pic) rear wheels were nearly 6ft tall,- a real beast. Also a twin row Inter picker. Friends parents had a farm in NZ as well, heaps of fun at haymaking time etc, driving tractors around.

I haven't learned much in my dotage, but have developed a system to divide "wants" from "needs".
When I see something I really, really "want", I tell myself I can have it in three days. After two days I revisit the item and if it's gone I didn't need it. If it's still available and now I only "really" want it, some of the pressure is off, and if I wait one more day and still "want" it, the item becomes a "need". Then I rationalize that since I can't take the $$ with me when I go, I may as well do my civic duty and spread it around while I'm here. ๐ Like

Ron, you are right,
I should ban myself from ebay. I am not a gambler, too cheap, but ebay?! The worse thing for me is to have a hard day, come home to a little libation, and go on ebay to reward myself๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ I am tracking some steam plants from China, but that is a long way down the road, (I hope) I have to do one Steamy before I go to Davey Jones Locker๐๐ค๐๐ I know i am hopeless. Why even go looking on ebay?
Letโs say you are trying to shed a few pounds, you pass by the bakery where fresh bread or butter tarts have just been displayed. Tempted yes, but walk on by is the answer. Better yet cross the road before getting there. ๐ Like

Beautiful job JB.
Farmalls are my weakness, (I have a lot of weaknesses). As a kid we had a small farm. the tractor we had was a Farmall Super C. never gave us any trouble. That had electric start but also allowed for had crank start. As far as hand cranks. I had a 32 Pontiac in my 20's. It had electric start, but also had the hand crank option. I used to get a lot of looks in parking lots when i nonchalantly took the crank out of the car, walked around to the front, inserted the crank and started the engine. It was a 6 cylinder, obviously not with 10 to 1 compression๐๐. The most important thing was NOT to wrap you thumb around the crank, but to keep it in line with the rest of your fingers. Thereby not breaking your hand in the event of a kick back. But you already know that๐ Sorry for running on.๐ Trev ๐ Like

Ron,
My comment regarding my wife, was just a joke. We have a very solid relationship. And, lots of self discipline during my earning years is allowing me some extra discretionary spending in my retirement years. My biggest problem now is space. We have been purging like crazy, but the intake seems to be outpacing the outgo. sigh ... All is good. I start the 12 step model boat hoarders program next week .... Dave ๐ Like

Not a good excuse that the it was a package deal or not. I have a hobby budget, since there is nothing but my pension income each month, my wife and I made an agreement.
It works. If there is something needed, I must sell or trade to remedy the need. Self discipline is a good trait to develop, give it a try, you may be surprised at how things are not as needed as one thought. Relationships with loved ones are more peaceful and less stressful too. Trust is valuable. My two cents Ron ๐ Like

Funny you should mention Farmall 'A' tractors Trev, did this one up back around 1995 to tow my 100% Hartley. No starter, and would smack your hand if you got the cranking wrong, (guy I sold it to had his hand broken by it!). Towed the boat well, but the band brakes were terrible. Luckily I only had to go about 200yds on the flat to the boat ramp.
Not quite a ride-on, more a drag you along,- Masport Grass Master 3 speed (King Cat Cub in disguise) walk behind, my current grass controller. Had it about 14yrs. JB ๐ Like

Trev,
I've got: 2 - Bolens HT20's and a Bolens HT18. Yes, they are brutes! Ariens 2200 Grand Sierra and GT20. 212, X324, GX345, & 1025R Deere. Some tractors are set up for snow removal, some for mowing, and the 1025R for heavy work ... I really do need to thin this collection out some. Think of how many boats I can put in place of each tractor! LOL Dave PS In all fairness, I inherited over half of the tractors as a part of my Dad's "some day, this will all be yours" collection. There is no known cure (apart from the obvious) and I'm sure none of us can leave a balsa rack unmolested in a model shop, or spot a nice piece of wood, and not think, "that would make a nice model, if only I could cut it into strips" or perhaps a nice piece of 12"x12"x36" driftwood and turn it into a tug..............................๐

Brilliant PJ, my worry exactly, (and probably my sons') My son has no interest in RC models, and is going to get stuck with this lot๐๐ - even I don't know what to do with them. Each one is fully operational but hardly used these days (apart from the boats). I recently sold a plane and disassembled an experimental ducted fan Quad, which made room for, - MORE MODELS !โน๏ธ A couple of years ago I sold 3 helicopters as well, but the pile is not getting smaller ๐?? Obviously been suffering from undiagnosed modelitis for years,๐ (add another 11 planes, 1 helicopter and 10 boats in the past from (1968) and the prognosis is not good๐

Furball,
Yeah ... she was at my shed over the July 4th holiday weekend. I think I'm discovered .... sigh. She also eyed my garden tractor collection pretty closely. I thought having a shed 3 miles from the house would be safe, I guess not. So far, the only repercussion is her buying more and more expensive toys for the grandkids. And that may have happened anyway. I'm still in the same bedroom! ๐ Like

Lookโฆโฆ. I figure it this wayโฆโฆ..
If your wife stumbles into your collection, and your buddies notice a new man in your wifeโs life, something has gone awry. BUT, perhaps your wifeโs new husband will appreciate everything youโve brought to the relationship prior to him. I hope he values the boats and a 10,000 + hot wheels and matchbox collection tooโฆ. You have to want to be cured. You sound like you do not want to be found out!
Some of us have managed to live with this affliction (I don't like the word addiction) for many years. It is treatable but cold turkey (not sarnies) is unpleasant for all concerned. It has become easier to continue in a clandestine way with fewer model shops around but some still operate from backrooms, the supply is there. Best accessed via the untraceable Private Window then funding a Paypal account with innocent transfers. This stops it appearing in your bank accounts. An untraceable mobile 'a burner' can also be used. I think there is an organization that can appear at your house and remove all incriminating evidence, I believe operated by fellow sufferers, it is on the black web! If you want a cure you are on the wrong forum! Roy ๐ Like
