Hi Mike, I agree with Hermank about redoing everything, because I think there is enough room to do it.

I was thinking of a practical solution but I need some more detailed photos and more precise measurements.
The propeller shaft must be 4 mm, ok, the tube 5 mm. But for the latter are you referring to the internal or external diameter?
Did the old system use bearings or bushings?

I built mine with 4 mm brass tube, bearings 4 and 8 mm internal and external diameter.
Aluminum containment tube internal diameter 8 mm external diameter 10 mm.
Maybe the 10 mm containment tube is too much for your model.
With the bearing system you could go down to 9 mm, maybe 8 but not more with a 4 mm shaft.

Alternatively you can buy ready-made propeller shafts.
I have seen some quality ones on the internet and some very cheap ones. They are usually made of steel and do not use bearings.
The advantage is that you save a lot of time, the disadvantage is that there are relatively few lengths so you may have to adapt the position of the motor, moving it further forward or further back (if this is possible).

Alternatively, to avoid a lot of work (if you can straighten the old axle) you can use joints that connect the axle of different diameters (there are all sizes).

Slowly I move forward, had considered the old engine ok, but this was a mistake.

Had to improvise a new motor mount, now solder the connections to the speed controller and adjust them.
Oh yes, the old speed controller was also burnt.
Tomorrow evening I will test everything again and if it is ok, I will continue with the other parts.
It's a mess of cables at the moment, but when everything works, it looks a bit more professional!

Yes definitely an AQUACRAFT "Bristol Bay" trawler with many added details such as the anchor winch, detailed hatch behind the front cabin, & detailed door on the front hut. Mine lacks a smoke generator, is totally original. I bought it prior to 2010 so it's at least 13y.o. Came with a 27MHz radio system. RTR, just add transmitter & lighting AA cells & a NiMH 6-cell pack for propulsion. BTW the sails on the 1:1 scale model are for stability in swells, they are not for propulsion. With her lights on she looks fantastic a halfhour after sunset. The brass prop is a nice touch.

Trawling around I found several sites offering the Bristol Bay / Bristol Trawler.
Turns out it's an Aquacraft ARTR boat, hull length 85cm.
One site, see link, offers useful tip re scale (scroll to the bottom).
Using that tip-
Door height 3.5", man height say 6 feet = 72"
Scale is 72/3.5=20.5 QED

Hi the 'pipe' is the chimney from the kitchen, always looks like this to give an updraft no matter which way the wind is blowing, presumably over the cooking stove.
