Hi there. I'm brand new to the club and just finding my way around, I'm also new to model boat building, I started about 2 years ago building one of the bearospace boats, Flyer to be precise a gaff rig pilot cutter (see "sailtales" on youtube") about 2 weeks ago I acquired a few sheets of 3mm ply, so like a fool I've started building a second boat, I'm going to end up with a fleet ha ha. But to build a boat of your own design boggles my mind, I'm very impressed and looking at what you are doing I'm sure it's going to be a joy to sail.
Thankyou for reading my comment and the very best of luck to you.
Hi,
it's a very interesting design, and I'm interested to see how it will perform on the water. However - I admire the effort to build one's own - nevertheless - I recommend going through the Gary Webb website -http://www.bearospaceindustries.com/boats2.html where Gary presents several of his original models of boats of simple construction, which sail well.
"use the bathtub improperly"
Not at all Alessandro.
Amongst us 'boaties' the bathtub is properly known as 'The Domestic Test Tank Facility'.😁
Cheers, Doug 😎
Thank you for your support flaxbybuck. I really appreciate it.
The ballast is only 7kg or maybe less and yes it's lead. I had som much "fun" pouring it... Took me a whole day. Almost
What a beautiful boat you have made Andy. I love the detail of the superstructure pieces and then standard of finish. Super ! Whilst we can see lead (?) in the bottom of the hull, is the keel made of lead, and what overall weight of ballast have you needed ? For a yacht of these dimensions I imagine it must be 15 - 20 lbs. 😉
Yes I did browse the net for inspirations. I could conclude that practicality plays a huge role in a overall look and detailing.
Unfortunately the hull was made by a friend, I must confess.
I agree with Herman and indeed your gaff-rig cutter follows my own favourite way of making model sailing boats.
A fibreglass hull gets you off to a flying start, saves countless hours - and very possibly lots of hassle - from a plank on frame hull.
Additionally, you have the real satisfaction of designing your own beautiful sailing creation, - very possibly by borrowing some of the features of other full size of Model craft.

Good luck expanding your fleet. Space would possibly be required😉

One more question about the lead. Did you pour it directly into the hull or what was the process?
If this is an item you have made I would love to know how you did it
Cheers😉
Not a stick n string man myself (yet?), but I always appreciate excellent workmanship when I see it. Well done.

complimenti, ottimo lavoro, ma vedo che anche tu usi la vasca da bagno impropriamente, ahahahahah.
"My second boat, scratch build to my own design"
congratulations, excellent work, but I see that you also use the bathtub improperly, ahahahahah.
