A friend (mad welshman - Will) sent me some plywood shapes that he hoped were from a LesRo Stiletto so that I could work out what else was needed to make two sets of parts for us to build a new Stiletto each.
The delaminated cabin sides he included looked "familiar" (definitely not from a Stiletto!), so I cut some more wood and I am making them into a complete Sea Commander "look alike" ! 🤣

The “Kopy Kommander” (as this non -authentic Sea Commander has been called) ran very well today with its new SeaKing 120AMP water-cooled ESC.
This ESC replaced the air cooled 120AMP Surpass ESC that I have been running in this boat since I first restored it during the Covid lockdown-down as it had started to “pulse” a little when the boat was at speed, nothing dangerous, but enough to be annoying, so it has been replaced.
The new ESC is a forwards only marine speed controller, but yesterday we managed to program it from the transmitter to add a reverse function that worked well when tested for the first time today (along with Rapier 1 and it’s newly programmed 150AMP SeaKing ESC).
This Kopy Kommander runs much better with its new water-cooled ESC than it ever did with the air cooled ESC as it is smoother and has more power………..and it does not pulse!
It was the first time that I have been able to run the Kopy Kommander at the same time (one after the other) as the Rapier 1, and I was surprised at just how close we had managed to close the “performance gap” that existed between these two models.
Rapier 1 was in a different league to the Kopy Kommander as far as handling in the water was concerned, but after all the experimenting and minor modifications, the Kopy Kommander is now surprisingly good and can give Rapier 1 a good run for it’s money.
Result. Kopy Kommander is now a really good boat to drive that handles very well and turns quickly too . The bad old days of seeing the boat nose dive and try to sub-marinate when turning right at speed into choppy water (or a wake) have gone forever.
This has become a very nice boat to drive that no longer has any bad habits and one that I really enjoy driving.

Today when I was at the club lake I noticed a lifeboat model producing a good healthy wake ……and the temptation was just too much to resist, so some good healthy “wake jumping” followed…..…
The owner of the Lifeboat is another new Sea Commander fan and is building his own Sea Commander from a kit at the moment .

This boat is now finished (is any model boat really “finished”) and had been running really well over the last few weeks on the Southport Club lake.
It is a really nice model to “drive” and I am very pleased that I built it!
Thanks for the old cabin sides Will - you inspired me to build this version of a boat I had never owned - the Aerokits Sea Commander.
This boat is now affectionately known as the Kopy Kommander as not much more that the cabin sides I was given to work from are original parts.

The old cabin sides were repaired and patched (one side was not complete) and the delaminated areas were super-glued and pressed back together.
Most of the parts were made "by eye" (whatever looked right) - so the end result may not be an exact replica of a genuine Sea Commander - but it should look very similar 🤓
