Sea Commander from a pair of old cabin sides

About this boat

A friend (mad Welshman) sent me some plywood shapes that he hoped were from a LesRo Stiletto so that I could work out what else was needed to make two sets of parts for us to build a new Stiletto each.
The delaminated cabin sides he included looked "familiar" (definitely not from a Stiletto!), so I cut some more wood and I am making them into a complete Sea Commander "look alike" ! 🤣

    Just an update.

This boat is now finished (is any model boat really “finished”) and had been running really well over the last few weeks on the Southport Club lake.

It is a really nice model to “drive” and I am very pleased that I built it!

Thanks for the old cabin sides Will - you inspired me to build this version of a boat I had never owned - the Aerokits Sea Commander.

This boat is now affectionately known as the Kopy Kommander as not much more that the cabin sides I was given to work from are original parts.

I added some non-authentic "strakes" to the underside of the hull as I had previously worked out how to make triangular section lengths of wood on my bandsaw when I found that it was no longer possible to buy any, and I made more than I needed for my Rapier restoration - so I couldn't resist adding some to this Sea Commander project 😎

I added a front cabin hatch to give easier access to the otherwise closed section of the hull. The front was shaped to coincide with the unique "wave breaker" that is part of the Sea Commander design. I have not made any templates for the wave breaker yet, but like everything else on this build - it will hopefully look "familiar" - if not exactly the same!

I cut a new keel from a plan that I found on eBay and made my own bulkhead shapes from old cereal packets and cut everything else from new wood - apart from the old pair of cabin sides that Will sent to me by mistake....so just like Triggers brush (Fools and Horses) everything will be totally "original" 🤣
The old cabin sides were repaired and patched (one side was not complete) and the delaminated areas were super-glued and pressed back together.
Most of the parts were made "by eye" (whatever looked right) - so the end result may not be an exact replica of a genuine Sea Commander - but it should look very similar 🤓
