About this boat

A recent swap for a past project, so far not tested, at least it floats, also small leak in the prop shaft due to loose prop, that's now been fixed and installed a smoke unit looks bit more like it had yo increase the weight to make her sit right ion the water, new smoke unit fitted

    Nice looking trawler.
It looks fine from what I can see.
But of course, you will polish it up to your own standard.
Here is my version of a trawler. “Arthur”.

Mountfleet NORTH SEA DRIFTER, kindly look at the rear end and ask yourself how could this possibly haul a trawl net, answer it couldn't. Due to the fact this is a drifter. ( I just might have mentioned this before.)

As Alessandro has already written, if the stern tube is not damaged, I would just replace the shaft. You can also have threads cut in a car repair shop. I'm sure that if you ask nicely, it won't be a problem, even for a small tip.

Ok Stephen, thanks for the photo, but I didn't understand the sentence: "now it is necessary to replace the internal propeller. I would like not to replace the hole, any ideas". What do you mean, "I wish I didn't replace the hole thing."
I try to think of something (scattered thoughts waiting to understand better).
    1. I would completely redo the propeller shaft, buying a brass tube of the right diameter, cutting it to the right size and threading it. (Do you know how to do threading though?). It's trivial, I know, but for the moment I don't have clear ideas.
    2. A tube passes through the hole in the hull (inside which the propeller axis rotates). Is this hose damaged? Should it be replaced? In this case I have a method that I could illustrate to you but which may not be suitable for your case.

Hi Stephen, sorry but I couldn't understand what the problem is, I would really like to help you but I can't.
Maybe with some photos or other suggestions I could understand better.

    Hello Stephen
That's a real problem. Do you have any more detailed pictures so we can get an idea of what it looks like? I would be happy if you posted more pictures, because I'm building the Britannia from Mountfleet Models and the ship is pretty much identical.

That is without a shadow of doubt a Mountfleet "Danny Boy" North Sea Drifter, you have the two rollers on each side of the hull by the main hatch, plus another two rollers on each side of the main hatch plugged into the deck, for a DRIFT NET. This Drifter was designed to catch herring, and has never seen a Trawl Net in its life, yes there is such a thing as a side trawler but this is not one of them.

If you search on here first Mountfleet models Danny boy there is a thread from 2021 where a member was building one. Might be some useful info there? LiverBudgie2 is the member concerned. Hope this helps.

I thought it was a Caldercraft model but it appears it is actually a Mountfleet fleet model. I don’t know when they first started making it though.

This boat is named after the chap's wife the man who made it was a master of one. Does anyone know when Caldercraft made these, on the subject of dating is there a list of what was made when sort topics for the forum

'Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling,
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.'

Looks very well built and in good nick Stephen. Good swap👍
Sure you'll have a lotta fun with 'Maggie/Danny'.
Keep us advised on progress please😉

    Cheers, Doug😎
Here a much better rendition of Danny Boy than Lt. Riley's (Star Trek TOS) or 'Two Dads' (Sea Patrol)😁
How about putting in a sound module Stephen? To play either Danny Boy or Maggie May, depending on how you finally christen her.

Looks like a Caldercraft “Danny Boy”. There have been a few incarnations of the Lowestoft fishing boat LT72 but none of them with this name. It’s maybe named after a relative of the original builder of the kit. Nice model.
