About this boat

GRACE is one of my own imaginary vessels, a retired fishing vessel which is now owned by a Scottish missionary who frequents remote regions bringing supplies and the gospel. It also supports Trans World Radio Canada via its radio broadcasts.

@Ronald Hi Ron, the grey plastic one is good the lower picture with the black metal case can be a bit electrically noisy. The market value is about right at the price mentioned. I bought one in a new box for £20, but I will use it if and when necessary. They are excellent motors but expensive to make and were £53 when last marketed.

@Ronald Hi Ron, I have Marx Monoperm Supers in each of mine with a split pack of 7.2 volts sub-Cs. These are 2 groups of 3 cells and split across the keel forward of the motor for good balance.
A 5 pole 385 would work but nor quite as well. I wanted them to have the same speed as originally as a pair I planned to have them working from a 4 channel Tx. with each boat having a 4ch. rx. but each boat on 1 stick.
This did not work as my usual right hand was happy but my left hand would not coordinate mainly when they were coming towards me.
So, back to separate control now. I have several monoperms I bought in a garage sale some years ago.
There are no equivalents but I have similar but need a higher voltage. Buhler make very nice motors but not cheap.

I didn’t place the sail there to solve any problem, it was there because I had seen it on full-sized vessels while doing the research.

Glad you gained some insight from my post.

@Ronald Hi nice model. For smaller models which I can now only manage I use the small 9gram servos to operate rudders as the thrust from them at 1cm. is over 1 pound (0.5 kgrm) quite enough for the job. About a year ago I bought 10 from China at a pound each including postage and am working through them not had any failures (yet).
The photo shows the 9gram rudder servo in a Mary Ann which was a decorative model and during the refurbishment.
I had an idea I could also use them to switch the points (turnouts) on my not yet working OO gauge model railway.
There is also a 12gram servo smaller and more powerful than the older standard servos I have on a small sailing yacht for the rudder control.

    Hello Ronald,
I always had trouble with my shrimp cutter, Aline, in windy conditions.
Now I’ve seen the simple way you solved that.
It’s actually quite simple, yet effective...
The kinds of ideas you find here...
    Your Michel-C.

    @ColRay

Thank you for you kind words.
No most of the model was built by someone else from a kit. A fellow from the boat club bought it in an estate sale. We were both putting in offers for it, unbeknownst. After Rod owned it but couldn’t see how to link up the rudder, he gave it to me.

I added LED lights, some paint, and changed some things to make it as it appears today.

Here are before and after photos.
