    Hi Bilhook301,
    Coming along nicely.
    Well done.
    What are the dimensions ?
Do you plan on fitting a smoker ?

Nice going Bill๐Ÿ‘ Or should I say Capn Hook ๐Ÿ˜‰
If those are 1foot slabs the plan is laying on my guess is the ship is around 48" LoA with about a 15 to 16" beam!! That's a lot of model with plenty of scope for the functional effects ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Will follow with interest. Some brief text to explain what you've been doing and HOW would be very useful๐Ÿ‘

    Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Yes I should give details just wanted to get back to the build, scratch built plank on frame with wood I have to see how cheap I can build it. No plans as such just side elevation and photos off the net so not true scale 31 inc long 8.5 inch beam some detail from my 3d printer, planks ripped from softwood and pickled until I could form the bends and left to dry before fitting, electric power and will fit brass prop after sea trials. This is the first boat I have built since I was 16 years old now 73!!!!!! been into model aircraft but this is more relaxing at least they come home in one piece.๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks for the info Bill๐Ÿ‘, still a reasonable but still handleable size at 31".
"ripped from softwood and pickled until I could form the bends"
I must ask! Malt, wine or apple vinegar!? ๐Ÿ˜Š
"been into model aircraft but this is more relaxing at least they come home in one piece."
After two crashes and one fly-away I too switched to boats/ships around 16!
First attempt was my destroyer HMS Hotspur in 1/72 scale - I can swim to rescue her - but I can't fly ๐Ÿ˜‰ She's currently undergoing her 3rd refit or SLEP (Service Life Extension Program)!
"will fit brass prop after sea trials" ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Would have thought that props would be kinda handy on a sea trial?
As a learner 3D printer owner I will be interested to see which details you use it for and HOW!
    Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Brass props are expensive try a range of plastic props to get idea size and pitch then go brass!!!!!!

If this is the first boat you have built since the age of 16 you are doing extremely well.
Well done keep up the good work.

Up to a point I agree with you Nerys.
But at some point I find that at least some simple sketches help to remind me what I was trying to do in the first place!๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes, a few simple sketches to aid the imagination, but I'm not a great advocate of the complicated plan. However that's my way of looking at things and I tend to be rather individualistic about most things. In my youth I built real boats with nothing more than a rough sketch and the ability to fathom things out in my mind.

One has to keep a picture of the desired result in the mind to be able to keep on track๐Ÿ˜‰

Believe it or not, this started out with 2 sheets of 100x1mx4mm balsa, planned/modified as I went, and it flew perfectly (gets near the ton in a slight dive) first time out. Wingspan 48" , 3548 1200kv, 4s 40c LiPo. Just used good old fashion eyeometry (and good luck.)

Wow! you must have ended up with wings bigger'n a 747 (75m) ๐Ÿ˜

Nice job JB๐Ÿ‘ That's how my free flight glider started out, 3 sheets of 36x4x1/4", ca 2m wingspan.
Caught a thermal on it's maiden flight on Hemswell Cliff and disappeared heading roughly North East๐Ÿ˜ญ

"planks ripped from soft wood and pickled" I know this will sound daft ,what do you use to pickle the planks? I know. Doug mentioned vinegar,if so how long do you steep the bits for .
