Mablethorpe Model Boat Group

Hi. I’ve tried to phone Victor from the Mablethorpe Model Boat Group. We brought our grandson and visited him last year. Does anyone know if he’s ok or have a contact number please?

Sailing days

Hi, We sail on a Wednesday and Sunday. During the lighter days it is 5.30pm, when the evenings close in it is 2pm. You must have £5million public liability insurance and a letter of permission from the local council. Hope this helps.

days to sail

HI and welcome to MMBG.
You will need public liability and permission from East Lindsey Council before you can sail with us. it is very easy to obtain PL ins. by joining The Model Power Boat Assn. Send your membership card with covering letter to the council, bring your membership card and council letter to us for confirmation of your membership. Very easy and I can supply you with forms if you wish. . Suggest you phone me for a chat 01507 475946.

Looking to sail!

HI there I've bought an RC boat and I live near mablethorpe, was wondering if I could come down and sail too?

As far as Public liability insurance, do I need to actually buy this or is it covered under something else?

The Frederick Spashett is one of a number of small vessels, 80ft. between perpendiculars by 20ft. 6in. moulded breadth and 9ft. 9in. moulded depth, built in the late forties/early fifties. Frederick Spashett was actually constructed in 1949 by Richards Ironworks Ltd., Lowestoft Yard No. 388, and was the first of what was to become a very successful class of drifter/trawler. She was built for Small and Co. (Lowestoft) Ltd., one of the major fishing boat owners at that time.
Powered by a 231 BHP engine, she had an uneventful career as a drifter, and was transferred to the Trier Fishing Co. Ltd., Lowestoft, one of the companies within the Small and Co. group, during the fifties. This was a regular practice by trawler owners, some of which had a number of 'one ship companies' under one group.
In all, the Frederick Spashett spent 16 years operating from LowesAtoft and other British ports during the various herring seasons.

This excellent conversion from a static model to a fully RC model with lots of extras such as interior and deck lighting was by Victor Marcham of the Mablethorpe RC Model Boat Club.

New Members always welcome. No joining fee but proof of Public Liability insurance is required by the council who then give you there permission to use the lake. Plenty of car parking that is only free during the winter months. There are 2 car parks, one at each end of the lake, check at which end we are sailing from before paying car park free. We normally sail Wed and Sundays subject to weather. Contact Vic 01507 475946 for more details.
