    Hi,
I am also trying to build the Robert Thelwell. its been three years now, but I don't seem to be getting on. Too many problems regarding detail and availibility. May get to it again later this year but unfortunately it does'nt look too hopeful. I did go to Wells-next-Sea the other week to find the Mabel Alice there, with three other lifeboats, an unusual coincidence. Good luck with the build - Gordon

    Hello Dave,
I have been a unwilling guest at our local hospital with two ops in one month but am slowly getting there again and will soon start on the Arun again. I did go to Warwick and it was good fun. if you have any pics of the R Thelwall you can send them via *email removed, PM only* and I will of course answer you with the 'progress pics'. Thanks for your help so far, hope to hear from you soon - Gordon

Thanks for the tips. I did phone Speedline the other day but they said they do not have the correct rubbing strip for the Arun. if all else fails, we do have a company that used to make rubber profile to order, will try them Monday and let you know, may be useful - regards Gordon

    HI there,
I am building an ARUN. After breaking radar mast No.11 I decided that plastic was not for me. Despite using really thick plastic throughout, the problem remained the same. Whenever I even slightly came against it, bang - another one gone. I have now made one in brass, heavier it is but being silver solered it has already taken quite a few knocks and it is still good. However I still have a problem with the rubbing strip. My model is the 'Model by Design' version. Question - does anyone know where I can get the 'coorect' shape of rubbing strip with a gutter for glueing onto the lip all round the boat, any response would be grateful - Gordon

    Hi,

Many thanks for your help so far. I am going to Germany on Wednesday but e-mail will still be working. I think it will be the KENNETH THELWALL or the EDWARD BRIDGES. Not sure yet. I have (temporarily made the kicking boards from Balsa, then treated this with Wood Rot liquid which has made the Balsa rock hard, then with white paint over the top, tedious but is solid and looks good. I shall carry on dreaming for a while about making the ladder. I've made one (from Foamalite) , did'nt like it and binned it. My wife said that it was good but being a dammed perfectionist I was not happy with it. Now for the rails - oh dear. Hear you soon (I hope) - Gordon ๐Ÿ‘‹

    Hi,
๐Ÿ˜Ÿ it all seems difficult so I have not chosen any particular one yet, still struggling with the radar and still finding the right metal for making some nice tight railings. Bottom and electronics all done (electronics is my business) Kick board material also is a slight headache but I have time.
