What a beast...but, a beautiful beast. Very well-done.

In the States, E-Z Off Oven Cleaner is the equivalent. Strips paint just fine and won't attack plastic. Be careful with it though. I will attack skin and bone because it's caustic.

When I was building mine (long time ago) I routinely took it to a beautiful lake at Furman University to test.
On one fine afternoon, I was out testing the water cannons and turned them on a gaggle of geese.
I'm here to tell you, geese don't appreciate that sort of thing. Two of them turned on the boat - which I flipped around as quickly as I could to get the hell out of there - and one of them took to the wing to give chase. I actually had to run a zig-zag pattern for about 100 feet or so to get him to lose interest.
The moral of the story is: Pick your targets wisely. HA.

I ran a 6 volt motorcycle battery in mine Robbe fireboat for years. it worked fine. I suspect the motors can handle more voltage if you're of a mind, though. My plan is to probably bump it up to 12V during its next renovation. As long as the speed controller can handle it, the motors should be good with about whatever you put to them.
I wouldn't worry so much about fire, either. if you melt down a motor, there should be no Ignition sources in there to burn.
