Very nice, cant wait to see the finished project. I recently built a model of a fire boat that I operate. I built the one I did from scratch as well. it being my first model I could have surly benefited reading your post prior to building mine. I put post of mine on this site about 4 years ago. Would like to start a new project looking for something like your tender. My project was an outboard which mad it difficult to find motors to use.
Next time it will probably be an inboard. Best wishes.

The boat is a scratch built boat. I built it from the actual boat I command. (ESC: Scratch) (5/10)

This is pictures of the real boat in action. As soon as I get the outboards for the model it will be operational. It also flows water out of the deck gun.

Finally finished the project. This boat was built from scratch. I took pictures and measurements from a real fireboat that I operate. I built it on a 1/12 scale using wood that I had left over from scrap. This was my first project boat. I was able to get a lot of technical information from this forum. So thanks guys. I have really fallen in love with boat model building. I have wired the boat and am waiting on two model electric outboards to mount on the transom. it took almost 6 months to complete. ๐Ÿ•Š

    HI Paul,

I use a system called West System. it is a two part Epoxy and is real easy to use. it is also real easy to sand. I put it on with a brush or a roller. I give mine about two or three light coats. Once it is dry I sand it lightly between coats with 220 grit then wet sand it with up to 600 grit. This gives it a glass like finish. Then if I paint it looks like a finish on an expensive car. it can also be used with glass to strengthen stress areas. They have some great tutorials on there web site. I also use it to repair full size boats that stay on the water. it is sold in the UK as well. I looked it up on there web site.
Hope this helps. Good luck. JD

I finally got the skin on the hull. I am giving It several coats of Epoxy Resin to waterproof It. Getting ready to paint but not really sure what type of paint to use. I am still trying to locate some outboard motors. First build going slow. Having to learn as I go. ๐Ÿ•Š

I use West System epoxy it is the real easy to use. You can get it at West Marine. You don't have to mesure it out it has a pump for each container. The mix is one for one with no smell. it is easy to sand I have even drilled and tapped it. I use it on the.inside and outside of the hull. The have a web page with info so does West Marine. Hope this helps. Jd

This is scratch build from a fireboat which I operate. it is Fire Boat 38 with the Charlotte Fire Department. I love boating and have always wanted to get into scale model boating. I feel like this is a unique boat and I want to make it as realistic as I can possible. Having never built a scale model boat I have a lot to learn. I have already running to some unique issues. I am having a tough time finding outboard engines. I love challenges. Just getting started.
    Suggestions welcome.

Starting a new project. Looking for suggestions of a strong quick bonding glue for wood. In the past I had been using a model wood glue but Is slow to bond. I was wondering If some had some suggestions.
Also looking for a sealant to waterproof the hull prior to painting.
