Thanks Dave M & Chris Lang.
What a fantastic resource this website is! Your replies are safely stored in my "Model Boat" file, and have given me the confidence that in due course I can overcome the hydrant challenge, and get plenty of advice when I need it.
Thanks again.

HI all - new boy on the block here.
I am returning to model boat building as a retirement, get me out of the better half's hair hobby, and am considering a fireboat or similar. The problem which I am looking at Is how to make or buy a working hydrant. I can do the pump etc, but the metalwork needed to make a realistic looking hydrant from scratch Is beyond me. I want something reasonably powerful.
All Ideas and thoughts gratefully received.
RogerS.
