Sea Going Anchor Tug
It's been a little while between builds but I will explain what I have done with the deck and cabin. The windows on the cabin were cutout In one big section on each side and I made stripes using plywood and glued back In place making them look like window frames, Now the whole top section has been coated with resin for strength and water proofing. I have added the lights Into the control panels from underneath the deck and when all the lights are on they shine throught the holes In the panels, I will be putting clear coloured beeds In the holes to look like coloured switches I have given It a test run and It looks good !!
I used 1mm brass for the railings and 3mm angle for the deck I used alloy mesh that Is the same as grating and glued It Into the angle, the steps they are made out of "White Metal" and I soldered them to the brass railing and when ready I will glue them to the deck and cabin. Now this Is the fun part I used "Magnetic Hatch Holders" to hold the cabin In place and the best thing about these magnets Is you can solder wires to the taps on the magnets (1 to each magnet) two on the deck and two In the cabin, This Is the way I supply power to the top cabin without the use of a plug It works well and you can use them for anything that requires power. The motors are fitted (RS 980) x 2 I'm fitting the servos for the kort nozzles this week so hoping soon I can give It a test run In the pool ..... I will upload some photos soon !!

HI to all,
I hope everyone had a good Christmas...
I have started a new line of smoke generators here In Australia, At the moment I have 2 sizes available and more on the drawing board. These new units will run on 12 volts and draw about 1 amp using oil based fluid.
Two Sizes
SG-1 80 x 45 x 50mm outlet 1/2" This unit Is design for the smaller craft or small spaces a neat little unit that performs great runs for 25mins on 1 fill of the tank (25mls) $65.00
SG-2 100 x 65 x 60mm outlet 1/2" Designed for the larger boats with a bigger tank and more powerful fan unit runs for 40min on 1 fill of the tank (35mls) $75.00
Both smoke generators can be connected directly to your power supply or to your motor for control of the fan speed ( Just need to make sure your speed controller can handle the extra power) you can set It up for 1 stack or 2 with 1/2" copper pipe fittings from your local Hardware shop..
Kit Includes :
1 x Smoke generator
1 x Smoke fluid (100mls)
1 x wire (300mm)
1 x nuts & washers
Check out the short clip of the smoke generator SG-1 at youtube

๐ 46" fireboat monitors

Gregg,
Pumps that some of us use in our boats are out of 4X4's and there are different types one can buy ( after market) "low volume & high volume" I'm sorry I should've made it clear that I was talking about the high volume pump which pump's 4lts/min. We like to display a mass of water with different colours ( I will find a photo looks good) so Gregg and anyone else reading this, I'm sorry for not making it clear what pump I was talking about.
CAR pumps are a good way of pumps water out and there is nothing wrong with them, All of us have used and are still using them with great results and they do use about 3-5amps of power (depends on type used) when I talk about cheaper option ( $AU15.00 - $AU20.00) there are some very nasty pumps out there that we should stay away from...
I guess it all comes down to how much water you want to move and most of all Buget.
I did'nt want to upset anyone !! I only wanted to show that we all need to watch the power used in some of the electrical items we put on our boats and I know Gregg will agree with me on that!!!
Please remember I'm in Australia prices are higher for items over here againest yor prices and some items we use are different to your's, Like water pumps ( Have you tried to wash a kangaroo off your windscreen !!!) high volume is the way we go on our land....

O.k
I' going to open a can of worms here or make a death wish but here goes...
All will agree that drive motors are not all the same, we look at getting as much power from the motors with little drainage on the batterys.. All agree "AGREE"
Pumps are no different !! We have pumps and then there are pumps. I'I go through the spec's on some pumps for you..
Graupner pumps
6-12volts
pump 1.2lts min
amps used on 12v (12amps)
Robbe Pumps
6-12volts
1.3lts min
amps used on 12v (10amps)
PG3 pumps ( Import)
6-12 volts
pump 1.9lts min
amps used on 12v (3amps)
All these pumps are geared and about the same price $AU25.00 - $AU30.00
Now, I'm not saying that other pumps are no good !! we all have our own way of setting boats up and items used..
I have ran a wiper pump in a tug for a while with great results.....BUT it uses 15amps of power to run it !!
sometimes a cheaper option is not always a good option (I have learnt the hard way as well )
it all comes down to how much time you want to spend driving your boat on the water ???
I'm sorry if I have upset anyone I don't mean to...
Shane

Dave,
Thank you for your kind words,I have had that leaking problem in my last tug and I fixed it with "air line fittings" no leaks !!
The pumps that I use are very high pressure and use min amps (PG3 pump) I had water going about 8ft and if you point the nozzles to the water it pushes the tug sideways ...
I will look at the boat in the picture section as well..
Thank you!!

๐ Ocean going tug project

HI all ,
Now I know it's not a fire boat, But it's what I'm working on at the moment and when finished then I will build a fireboat. Anyway for those of you wanting to know a bit more it's a "Ocean going anchor tug" no name just a freelance model from a couple of photo's. I'm a memeber of the "Springfield lakes maritine modellers" in Brisbane, Australia and we have compatitions in tug pulling power steering and so on, Good fun !!
This boat is built for power pulling and also for show when finshed she will be running a couple of steerable Kort Nozzles with 5 blade kort propellers (70mm) 2 x 900 motors on a 12 volt system. Full running lights as we have a lot of night sails here..
She will have a couple of fire monitors mounted on top of the second deck fully working ( So that's the fireboat part )
I have a small Model boat Fittings Shop and also need something to display running gear & fittings of all types and this is the boat that has been chosen for the project ... But also I would like to build a fireboat to display the water monitors and pumps I Import ( The pumps are great high volume low power ) so any ideas what would make a good craft to build for monitor spraying demo's ????

Hi,
I' not to sure about scale but Graupner and Robbe have monitors that work starting price of $AU25.00 for the Graupner, Robbe have one that you could make rotate as well all look very smart and are great sprayers with the right pump. if it's height you want for scale (If the monitors are too low) maybe you can mount them on a platform and extend the brass tube to make them bigger...

Stephen,
Hi I have just joined your group from Down under ( Australia ) I noticed you are looking for ways of raising funds..
I have a small model boats business here in Brisbane , Queensland. What about Businesses like myself running a advert on your site for a small fee ( I know I would be in on it ) and you readers can see what products are out there and I beleive that most other business will do the same ..
