HI all, I am proceeding along nicely now with the restoration of the James Braidwood Fire Float. I have a mind to get some crew but I want them to be authentic. Does anyone know where I might get crew or even the details of someone who might custom make these for me. I have pictures of the real firefighters of the period and want to get them as close as I can.

I am now getting some first class assistance from Steve in the UK from modelboat bits so I am a happy man. All my parts are on order or will be made for me.

Thanks Dave, I have bitten the bullet so to speak and started the project regardless. The model is now completely stripped and parts are on order from the UK. This project is now underway and we will see where I get to with it. I must say the hardest thing is not being able to pop to the local model shop for a bit of balsa or plywood or varnish or anything. They do not have anything like that here. Anyway none of that is going to deter me as I am on it now.

Thanks Dave, I have been researching this for sometime now and the Raven Arts guys have been helping me as have a few others but I still do not have a definitive answer on the scale or indeed the plans or instructions I am looking for. The model was made in limited numbers and measures approx 34/35 inches and is listed as 1/24th scale on some sites and indeed in very early posts 1/48th scale on this site. in my opinion it cant be either as the actual boat was only 45ft in length that therefore makes it closer to 1/16th scale if it is 34 inches long. I am no expert and indeed this will be my first restoration and I am simply trying to find someone who has this model, has had or built the model and can give me some correct information. I am determined to restore it, it is 90% complete with all the original rc etc but I will need to buy some additions to get it to where I want it to be. I have numerous pictures and articles and indeed the whole thing has been quite enjoyable for me, I just now need to commence the restoration which is going to be hard as I live in Cambodia and it actually as a country has no model shops whatsoever. Mail gets mislaid more than delivered so I have an uphill battle right from the start. I want to get all the equipment/parts I need in place before I commence so the scale of the model is fundamental and a set of plans or instructions would be really helpful to a novice builder. I have attached a picture of the model as she looks now. I have the mast and lights, stanchens etc to go with it. I thank you for answering anyway.

Well my search for instructions or plans continues and now I have a new issue which is the scale of the boat I have which is 34 inches long. I have read articles saying it is 1/48th scale and also seen forums and articles saying it is 1/24th scale. The original boat was 45 foot long so to my understanding if the model is 34 or so inches long that would make it 1/16th scale or thereabouts. Confusion reigns on this model for me and if there was someone out there (I cant believe there is not with all this collective knowledge Ion these sites) with the model or any knowledge of the Braidwood I would be very grateful to hear from you.

I have come across a partially built James Braidwood Fireboat and was wondering If anyone can help me with plans or build Instructions. I live and work In Cambodia so everything modelling Is that much more difficult to achieve. I am happy to pay for them but have no Idea who makes the kit etc, when It was made. I just know that It looks like a nice boat and want to try and restore It. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks Kev

I have purchased a Fire Boat on a well known internet site for a restoration project. I am trying to find out more about it I.e. exactly what it is who made the model etc. it has a fibreglass hull and wooden top. I am also trying to buy a set of plans for it or obtain some decent pictures of a finished boat to work from. if anyone can help I would be very grateful.
