Hello, here are the first pictures from my construction report of the Rau IX by Graupner on a scale of 1:45. I will post the first pictures in a relaxed manner, since I have already started and I am a little further along, more on that later. The hull was almost done so far. The engine was already installed, as was the rudder. The deck was already built up so far and only needs to be glued in place.

I hope that my English can be understood, I mainly work with a translator.

    Small upgrade

The small ladder is also attached to the chimney and the chimney is now finished. Finally I painted it with matt clear varnish.
Then I started with the lifeboats and the associated conditions.

Yesterday I fitted out the chimney.
Various eyelets, pipes and the steam whistle.
Now a little more color and then it's finished.

    Hello
The railing at the footbridge that leads to the Hapune is also finished. I adjusted the railing supports again at the bottom and glued them in place.
Now add a little color and you're done.

I did it. I tinkered for another hour and lo and behold, I feel much better.

I finished painting the chimney today and started on the railing of the jetty.

I always have problems with the railing.
The bridge supports had a 1 mm shaft to insert at the bottom. So I drilled 1 mm holes and glued the supports in. Then I wanted to do the railing and since it goes around the curve, everything was under tension and bang, three supports broke off. Since I only have a certain number of supports, I broke off the others and am now attaching them, step by step, together with the railing. I carve the supports again at the bottom so that they are all the same height again. So far everything is working.

Hey women and men. I have model building withdrawal symptoms. I haven't been able to do any crafting for several days. I hope I have time again this weekend, otherwise I'll have to go to a psychologist.

    Hello
Here are the first pictures of the rivets on the portholes.
    Phew, what a job.
Shorten and glue in almost 150 small nails.

The notch between the upper and lower bridges is still being worked on.

I drilled through the wood under the holes in the portholes with a 1mm drill and got 1mm brass nails with a round head. I shortened these and glued them into the holes on the portholes as rivets.
Well, at least in 4 of 28 portholes with 6 holes each.
What kind of work. But no matter what courage, that courage.
I'll submit pictures as soon as I'm done with them

    Hi Wolle,
A tedious job (I know that from my destroyer😉) well executed.
And now you are faced with another even more tedious exercise!
Drilling and fitting dozens of brass pins to finish the job.
    Viel Spass dabei🤞

    Hello

To have had a Merry Christmas.

A little further again but until I get it the way I want it.
    Well, here's my little progress.

Painted the fans, glued in portholes, attached hinges and door handles.

    Hello
Today I made the rest of the end rings, then I sanded the openings at the top, which will then be painted red on the inside.

    I also used the “dowels”.

I've also thought about it again, I'll probably make the fan at the bottom with spatula or something similar and insert some kind of dowel, then make a suitable hole in the deck, where the dowel will be glued. Ready

    Hello
Small question in the big pleasure round.

I thought about making rings at the base of the fans. I have enough leftovers.
What do you think about it, with or without?

And can someone tell me whether they can simply be glued to the deck?

I have finished the first fans and another companion house.

2 more fans a skylight and 1 companionway house are in the works.

I put everything loosely in its place.

I also finished, glued, filled and sanded the chimney.

Then I made a companionway house and 2 fans to size and glued them together. They then also have to be filled and sanded.

    Yes, it's getting that slow.
The chimney is drilled out at the top and then a pipe of around 10 mm is inserted.

I also glued the chimney together, now it still needs to be filled and sanded. I loosely put the parts in their places. Fits.

While the putty was drying, I started cutting out the next pieces.

I'm slowly getting practice at it.

    Coming together nicely Wolle👍
I know how tricky it can be to cut those vacforms accurately 🙄
Case in point was the conning tower on my Krick U25, also in two halves.
All these years later I still have a nagging doubt that I cut it too 'fat'.
Crew doesn't have much room to squeeze passed it on deck.
Had to bend the railing outboard🤔
    Cheers, Doug 😎
BTW: Ein Wort an die Weisen😉
    That's companionway not house!

I like that better. I removed the screw again and the first coat of paint is on it too. And this is how I will continue!
I'll first put all the structures together and paint them, then I'll attach everything and then the railing will come on.
    That's my plan (without guarantee)

There they are. I installed the wrong rollers there. EMBARRASSING Well, there's always something.

    Quickly replaced and done.
I also worked on the crow's nest and bent 2 Davids to size.

I started today with 2 roller stands. First I looked for the small parts together and after an intensive search for 2 rollers, I discovered that they were missing from the fittings set

OK, there's nothing you can do about that. After thinking about it for a moment, I thought there had to be a replacement.

Traced on 3mm plywood with a compass, roughly cut it out, then drilled a hole in the middle, put a screw through and secured with the mom.
Then I clamped the screw on the drill and ground it to size at full throttle.
Now I have to think about how I can get the rope guide into the roll, do you have any ideas?

    Hello
I'm not entirely happy with the crow's nest yet.

I'll remove the platform for the top lamp again, make it a little smaller or leave it out completely, we'll see.

And I will sand the plate under the crow's nest and then work it with a spatula so that there is a line.

    I made something again.

I shortened the crow's nest a little, otherwise the ring with the railing would no longer have fit over it.
It looked like this before and after processing with a large hole for the crow's nest, a small hole where it is placed over the mast and 3 0.8 mm holes for the railing.
Then I prepared the soldering device for the railing, so the glue has to dry first.

    Hello

Unfortunately for me things are progressing very slowly.

I don't have the time and there are a lot of little things to tinker with.

That's just part of it, I often don't go fast enough.

I'm just an impatient guy sometimes.

    We continued with the mast.
It took a lot of time to get everything together and work my way through the construction plans.
But now I have everything and have made the parts to size.
The lookout buoy......I have to see what I'm doing there, the thing was stowed at some point. Ok, we'll see.

    Hello
I did a little more work on the foremast.

Since it was a used kit, I was missing one of this small part.

So I recreated one. It's made of wood but you can't see it afterwards.

    Very nice, clean build Wolle👍

BTW: Stade was the first town in Germany I got to know, during a school exchange visit in 1966. 🙄Tempus fugit!
My exchange partner was one of the Ringleben boys from the large Ringleben farm just outside Stade, on the way towards the Elbe and the Kernkraftwerk (Nuclear Power Station) on the bank of the river. That was where I lost my fear of heights, standing on the open grating at the top of the red/white painted vent tower.
Lots of vivid memories of that visit - not least his sister Ushi and her Beetle!😉
    Viele Grüße aus München,
    Doug😎

Those large green crafters mats are a blessing. It's much easier to find things on a solid green expanse than on a wooden work surface that has many crevices. Then I also use one of those smaller light blue mats for electronics projects. It has raised edges to keep tiny parts from falling off.

I painted and glued the two side parts for the Hapunen platform.
Before I dropped a part and I didn't see where it fell. After a good 10 minutes and even more gray hair, I found the thing in the trash can again. I was already despairing.
Then I picked out the parts for the front mast.

    Hello
Since I want to operate my Rau partly with light, I looked for lights like the one in the first picture and didn't find anything. Only in our basement. So I'm going to build my own lights. In the second picture you can see a valve cap from a bicycle, light in, works. However, the lights should not be round, but oval.
    Picture 5 2 Valve caps.
Picture 6 The valve caps shortened. Picture 7 The shortened valve caps glued together.
Picture 8 Sawn through lengthwise. For the first time....fits.
    Picture 9 👍

    Hello
So those were the pictures from the past. Now let's continue with the current status. It can also take a little longer for me to post progress, because summer is coming and I have a garden that needs to be tended. Next up is the hapun platform. Reinforced with wooden strips from below and the side walls milled from the ABS part.
There will be 2 side panels.

Hello I replaced the old red plastic screw with a brass screw, I just like it better. I also installed brass screws on my OCEANIC and the Zwarte Zee, they are not exactly cheap but they have something. The Rau also passed the first water test with a load of 3 kg of lead.

Next up is the superstructure. Gluing the side walls. This had to be fitted appropriately on the deck. So that it doesn't stick to the deck, I put cling film between the deck and the superstructure.
The gaps between the walls will no longer be visible afterwards.

Your English translator works perfect. No worries and keep the forum informed how the building goes on. Don’t think about the translation, as they say nobody is perfect 😂😂
