PhilH, I humbly apologise, I'm already giving myself a good talking to and a sound thrashing with a branch๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.
Counselling will begin tomorrow in the confines of the garage.

This is going to be a slow process, fixed the props onto the shafts yesterday with good old araldite/ epoxy. Now letting them fully dry before testing. It's a bit nippy in the garage workshop and still lot's of other job's to get done before going back to work ๐Ÿ˜‘ ๐Ÿ™ƒ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Managed to fit the motors, mounted on a block of rubber. Will possibly have to readjust them when I put the blade's on. Trial and error at this moment in time whenever I get a spare minute ๐Ÿ˜Š

    Had to have a bit of a think ๐Ÿค” but I believe I have a solution ๐Ÿ˜….
Due to the constraints of this size, I'd repurposed two motors from my original "steampunk subsubmarine " which had originally been on a toy aeroplane which was destined for the bin. Only problem is that due to their size, although they fit inside the hull, I needed some prop shafts and couplings to link it all up. My solution has been some "copper " welding sticks/rods which are the right diameter for the props and then some plastic sheafing from electrical cable which fits nicely onto the shafts. The only drawback is that they are still too big for the motor shafts. A little bit of out of the box thinking and searching, I have found a tube which usually is found on the small cans of spray oil and this fits onto the motor shaft which in turn fits snugly inside. I've had to adapt the exit for the prop shafts
as the model design wasn't in alignment. Have some end caps from some injection medication that my wife has been on, so although not correct if for this build it works that's fine as it won't be seen when in the water. Currently spending time with daughter who is visiting so only working in fit's and starts, progress will be slow ๐ŸŒ.

Good morning everyone, thanks for the comments so far ๐Ÿ˜Š.
Should have said in the initial post, that this if it works will only run as a surface model. My engineering/mechanical skills are not that advanced. If I can get this to work, hopefully I can move on to the realms of a larger version which would be able to submerge. In the event that this does become a submersible, then I think I might have a problem ๐Ÿ˜… ๐Ÿคฃ

Do it! It is the best of both worlds, frustrating and exciting. I love this slice of the hobby because it keeps my mind working and I sail with some really great friends. There are some builds documented, I have one, that will take you step by step. Or like here, just ask a question.

I have used a polo mint to hold down a small marker buoy, as in time it would dissolve and realise the buoy.

    Hi Doogle!
Two of my club colleagues are building a submarine without any construction plans and finished parts. . .
Since the first attempt might sink the thing forever, they attached balloons with string . . .
It is also an advantage to have a rubber boat with you . . .

    Hi Doogle
That looks a nice project you have going, back in the day I used to have a six foot working one until I lost it.
Have a look at R&R Model Engineering Ron have some good parts that will help you if you do go to a full working sub.
You could also have a look at the Association of Model Submariners FaceBook page (we won't bite)

Wow - you guys brought back some memories I had as a kid (almost 70 years ago). The baking powder submarine! (Checkout Wikipedia and others.)

The USS Nautilus submarine came in a cereal box. Seemed like it was about 5 inches long. Now that is small!

Now with some RC mechanisms there might be some way of controlling the baking powder reaction with the water thus controlling the dive. Just food for thought.

    Going home (in Florida) soon.

    Ahahahahahah.
Sure Doogle, if it submerges itself without you wanting it to it is certainly a problem.
However you are right it is too small to be able to make it submersible.

Will it navigate completely on the surface or at periscope depth?

It will be a pleasure to follow your work anyway.

Fancied a different challenge so picked this up a little while ago.
Now that the Calypso is complete and I have space again, just started this build.
As you can see from the box it measures in at 51cm or just under 2 foot in old money ๐Ÿ’ฐ. This will be a first as I've never built a submarine, I have some tiny motors which I will try to fit, these have come off my old steampunk which in principle worked but not as I'd wanted so these if they fit will be repurposed. Also a mini esc which should fit. Not sure about servo for the rudder due to space, but hey ho, this is a bit of an experiment for me. At the end of the day if this doesn't work, I get to practice not only with the mechanics but also with my newly acquired airbrush. So far, the 2 halves of the hull have been joined and the "cowlings/covers for the prop shafts. Any cracks have been filled and sanded, next check to make sure all is watertight and then I'll look at installing the motors etc. Fun times ahead ๐Ÿ˜€

    Hi Jumpugly, awesome model.
The intent to transform a static one into a dynamic one is exciting, you have all my admiration.
The attempt alone is worthy of admiration because it seems very difficult to me.

Hi Luckyduck, this would be ideal (see link at the end of the message).

However, I believe that at thirty or forty centimeters of depth the submarine can also be seen from the surface.

Also if I had the time and resources I would try to put a micro camera on board capable of transmitting.

Here's my display and "weathered" Polar Lights Skipjack...all 40 inches of her. My next effort will be to convert a new one it to r/c. I chickened out this time.

Love it D! Sub kits have gotten totally better than in the old days, some with incredible aftermarket detail parts. There is the awesome RCSUBGUY on YouTube who does nothing but build and review r/c subs, his vids are incredibly helpful!

Alessandro - while its always clever to have a submersible submarine - when it is underwater you can't see it - maybe just making it a watertight surface submarine is almost as good? Laso saves having to make diving planes work.

I'm thinking about this now, so excuse me if I say something stupid: A volume that can be flooded (gradually) for immersion should be created. Then to resurface the water would have to be expelled. All this while always paying attention to the transversal and longitudinal structure, a big problem. In a model measuring just 51cm, it's quite a feat.

Hi Doogle, fantastic initiative, very exciting work.

I have never built an RC submarine (only static and very small) so my attention and sympathy are all for you.

Have you already studied the method for immersing it?
It's a new field for me and I wouldn't know where to start.
How deep do you think you can go?
