Do it! It is the best of both worlds, frustrating and exciting. I love this slice of the hobby because it keeps my mind working and I sail with some really great friends. There are some builds documented, I have one, that will take you step by step. Or like here, just ask a question.

I have used a polo mint to hold down a small marker buoy, as in time it would dissolve and realise the buoy. Fred ▲

Hi Doogle!
Two of my club colleagues are building a submarine without any construction plans and finished parts. . . Since the first attempt might sink the thing forever, they attached balloons with string . . . It is also an advantage to have a rubber boat with you . . . ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐๐๐๐ Ciao Michel-Cl. ▲

Hi Doogle
That looks a nice project you have going, back in the day I used to have a six foot working one until I lost it. Have a look at R&R Model Engineering Ron have some good parts that will help you if you do go to a full working sub. You could also have a look at the Association of Model Submariners FaceBook page (we won't bite) Fred http://www.rcsubs.co.uk ▲

Wow - you guys brought back some memories I had as a kid (almost 70 years ago). The baking powder submarine! (Checkout Wikipedia and others.)
The USS Nautilus submarine came in a cereal box. Seemed like it was about 5 inches long. Now that is small! Now with some RC mechanisms there might be some way of controlling the baking powder reaction with the water thus controlling the dive. Just food for thought. Lew Going home (in Florida) soon. ▲

Ahahahahahah.
Sure Doogle, if it submerges itself without you wanting it to it is certainly a problem. However you are right it is too small to be able to make it submersible. Will it navigate completely on the surface or at periscope depth? It will be a pleasure to follow your work anyway. ▲

Hi Jumpugly, awesome model.
The intent to transform a static one into a dynamic one is exciting, you have all my admiration. The attempt alone is worthy of admiration because it seems very difficult to me. ▲

Hi Luckyduck, this would be ideal (see link at the end of the message).
However, I believe that at thirty or forty centimeters of depth the submarine can also be seen from the surface. Also if I had the time and resources I would try to put a micro camera on board capable of transmitting. ▲

Love it D! Sub kits have gotten totally better than in the old days, some with incredible aftermarket detail parts. There is the awesome RCSUBGUY on YouTube who does nothing but build and review r/c subs, his vids are incredibly helpful!

Alessandro - while its always clever to have a submersible submarine - when it is underwater you can't see it - maybe just making it a watertight surface submarine is almost as good? Laso saves having to make diving planes work.

I'm thinking about this now, so excuse me if I say something stupid: A volume that can be flooded (gradually) for immersion should be created. Then to resurface the water would have to be expelled. All this while always paying attention to the transversal and longitudinal structure, a big problem. In a model measuring just 51cm, it's quite a feat. ▲

Hi Doogle, fantastic initiative, very exciting work.
I have never built an RC submarine (only static and very small) so my attention and sympathy are all for you. Have you already studied the method for immersing it? It's a new field for me and I wouldn't know where to start. How deep do you think you can go? ▲
