I am struggling with my latest build
I am struggling with my latest build it is footie and I have tried two sets of sails the first following the plan exactly and the second experimenting a little and they both have the same problem with the fore sail or jib attached the boat will not tack across the wind properly and always ends up trapped against pond side, I did shorten the lower wooden pole on the jib to make sure it was not hitting the mast that made no difference. I remove the jib and the boat sails perfectly I have tried a larger rudder that made little difference, but I think my boat looks incomplete without the jib so I was thinking if a smaller jib in the style of a pond yacht might work better.

- RossM🇨🇦Captain·@Clockmaker It looks like the pivot on the jib might be too far forward? (75% of the jib boom?) Try moving the pivot to 70% or 66% of the jib boom. (move it back down the bow sprit too).The jib should go over first in a tack, but there is too much force on the rear of the jib, in your current form to allow it to swing over easily during a tack. - RossM🇨🇦Captain·@Clockmaker : Also, I find in light winds, (which is where a Footy lives), tacking is more difficult. If I am having trouble getting through a tack I will turn very slightly downwind to gain a bit of speed for the tack. If I put the rudder over too hard, too fast it acts like a brake and brings things to a halt. I have had to learn to put the rudder over gently, slowly. It makes for a wider slower turn but you get through the tackLiked by lindemann06 and Clockmaker
