Looks like a couple of the boats from Lymington - well done
Had to laugh when reading that a scale model judge said that fishermen always kept their boats immaculate.........
You have captured the essence here

There are some nice boats at lymington, go there with work. And yes fisherman do keep their boats clean but they inevitably get battered between clean ups! They are working boats after all!!!

Agree with you Graham - point is they are never immaculate - even after a refit /overhaul . And who has the time or money to keep a boat immaculate when trying to make a living fishing. Its hard enough to keep the essentials maintained......
A crabber from Lymington was probably the dirtiest boat I have ever seen - if you weathered to that degree no one would believe it.........

Brixham is just around the corner from me. Your weathering looks spot on to me. I have seen much worse as well. Don`t know how they go to sea on some of them.

    OUCH!!!
    I bet that hurt!
It is amazing what can be done nowadays, the surgeon/mechanic did a great job.
I am glad you are on the mend.

    πŸ“ Disaster on the bench!
    6 months ago by GrahamP74 ( Midshipman)
    Flag
I decided to take Our Ben out to the bench to have a small paint up, however due to an accident several rather large boxes fell and caused her to end up in the floor! Hull is fortunately intact. I have seen this as an opportunity to resite the wheelhouse to one side to allow more deck space. Some of the capping had also broken so I have re applied using resin and tissue. This has given it much more strength.
Now I can paint her! Photos to follow!!

    πŸ“ Net bins
    1 year ago by GrahamP74 ( Midshipman)

The boat is nearly complete now, the final part is to fill the deck with fill nets! I have found that the Heinz snap pots for baked beans are the perfect size! Top removed, sprayed and weathered and then a body buff has been cut up and stuck inside along with some twine. I’ve then painted the net to make it look dirty and some varnish to give it a wet look.. 2 down 1 more full one required and then a stack of 3 empties... but first dinner, and yes, it’s beans on toast for me!!!

Managed to fit the gantry and mast and made the sail.
To get the right cloth I used and old pillowcase (well I think it was old) and painted it both sides with wood stain / varnish. Happy with the finish.
As with all my models I always put a piece that my Dad made on the boat, this time it is the wooden pulley block.

Finished fitting the deck today. Also fitted the pot and net hauler. Wheel house is positioned but not stuck.
Pleased with the deck and although there is now a raised hatch this is more in keeping with how the boat would be..

I did the drawings myself based off some local boats and then scaled to 16th. I use craft board which is easy to cut and stick and bend.
