Yes they were a gem. My first was a 1949 sidevalve Morris minor. Same story, wish I still had it.

I can imagine trying to control with the power. Would have been interesting. Off to the hardware to research materials tomorrow. I was going to use pvc pipe but box Alum. Tube might be the go. I will see.

That little gem took us allover 🇳🇿 I would just have problems getting down in one now!.
Ok on the power pod on the LY - just tried for fun (as you do ) actually it works quite well on the front also , just more to fiddle with !. Its more fun & more of a challenge to keep it on three wheels in the right direction without power!!!.
I love to see what you guys and people like jbkiwi are doing down under and in all the other "Heineken " places that the forum reaches !..
By the way I am really enjoying sailing my "Slim Nip" with the high aspect sails especially in the light winds,
Cheers👍⛵

Am I seeing power assistance on number 3? Wonder how that would go on the pond.👍

Agree. Rc cars in their controlled areas are getting more popular in the larger cities with competitions etc. In my area aircraft are getting very popular although with insurances and fees etc can be cost prohibitive.

Have to get sailing again whether land or water, somehow.

There is barely any model boating in NZ now and only a few plane clubs, - everyone seems to have lost interest due to lack of decent boating ponds, or places to fly planes, due in part to a lot of whingers spoiling it. There is still a lot of small boat sailing (100%) but the classes are probably 1/8 of what they were in the 70s. Kids these days seem more interested in their phones. Used to be a lot of car events, (dirt track, hill climbs etc) but not as much now. Too many safety restrictions on cars now, as well as all the health and safety rubbish organisers have to go through,- makes it a nightmare.

We have an area about 500m square which at the moment has good water from about 10m out. All the accessible edges and further have this weed which only appeared 12m ago and disappeared during winter. The water is basically a flood catchment area.

We are onto council about it but it is also a nature reserve.

I plan to go to Manly yacht harbour in Brisbane however as a club we are starting to lose members to model aircraft.

I will post with what we produce. They will be very simple with roller blade wheels and pillaged electronics and Wee Nip🤞 sails from our boats. At least it will keep the mind active.

Hi Peter, had the same thought, our beach here in Orewa is 3.5km long and flat as a pancake and hardly anyone on it at times. A few guys run blowcarts and get some good speeds, which gave me the idea. I was thinking of a sliding ballast weight to keep it upright. Interested to see how you get on. Shame about your lake,-I guess you're a bit landlocked there, and most of the lakes I can see anywhere near you look pretty weedy near the shore (and I guess some have no water at times). Where do you normally run the boats locally and where's your alternative at 180km, Brisbane ?

Ron, Was just watching video of the ice boats. They hammer. Thanks for the links.

Having finished Emma a few months ago, I have only been able to put her in the water once due to weed that has taken over our waterway. Sitting just below the surface no-one is able to put any boat in, regardless of wind or power. Nearest available water is 180k away.

A little frustrating when I look in my workroom and see the boats sitting idle.

One of my friends has decided to build a land sailer using a wee-nip sail and borrowing the electronics from one of his boats. I will follow suit.

Has anyone in our group tried this? Any direction on materials would be appreciated. His will be using ply for the main structure and inline skate wheels. I am looking at pvc pipe for the main.

Thanks.
