No Boat Meets - drought in mid-Florida

hermank,
Our house is high and dry.
thank You for the concern!

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Good thing is we have tanks (armor) on alternate weekends.

Re:
Flooding in Florida.
The area that is flooding is about 250 miles away in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Super wet there and super dry here. Hopefully we will get some relief soon, not just for model boats, but the vegetation as well. Only alternative is a salt water area (yuck).

Hovercraft, etc., good ideas. But between having several boats under construction and several needing repairs I don't want to get involved in a new build. Closest club is along drive. This site helps to keep me "going ".
Thanks friends!

Lake Ontario is up about 5' right now. At least we have more water under the keel to avoid the trash on the bottom. We are using a boat launch basin as our city-designated 3 boat ponds are undergoing renovation...for several years. Weeds will be a problem by late June. Rescue vessels are very important here.
Levels of our Great Lakes are not well-regulated

Wow! I would never have thought that an area 2 miles from the ocean, and 1000' feet from basically an ocean Bay could suffer from draught/low water table. So sorry to hear about your situation!
I have a friend that lived in the Williamsdale Square area of Seminole for many years, who we visited often.
From all the times I have visited Florida, my impression was that pretty much anywhere in the state if one dug a 2' deep hole you would hit water .... LOL
We broke an all-time record for snow this winter. With the spring thaw, we have no shortage of water, as you can see in the attached picture of a local restaurant.

That's a real bind, can't you visit another club's lake or find a temporary alternative?
If it don't fit, use a hammer to make it fit....

Sorry to hear about your water situation Lew. It must be so frustrating for you and your club members. You could try building hovercraft. We have one or two here but they are noisy things !😉

No Boat Meets - drought in mid-Florida

Bad news for us in the Tampa Bay area (west central Florida, USA). A lack of rain has caused the groundwater table level to subside. Our operating pond (Lake Seminole Park) is really low, down about two feet which is the worst I have seen in nearly 50 years sailing there. The pond is about 300 feet (100M) in diameter and normally only about five feet deep in the center. Now it is about three feet and dangerous to model boats as there are tree branches in the water as well as the bottom growth is closer to the surface. The pond water it is not being refreshed.

So, the SSMBC has cancelled meets☹️ until further notice. I guess I will be watching more videos on YouTube, keep them going! If anyone has any good links to model boat videos, especially construction details and close-ups, to share, please post them. [Add a new topic under Usefull Links, "Video links".]
