Thanks Ron, I did that a few years back when I noticed (in the list of all Flowers built) that Sackville had been preserved as a museum ship, after restoration to her WW2 configuration. Got some great hi-res detail photos from the website. Cheers, Doug๐

Finally got a chance to read this book, High Seas, High Risks, The Story of the Sudburys by the late Patricia W. Norris.
The S S Sudbury was the former WWII HMCS Sudbury a Flower-class corvette. Purchased in 1946 for private use as a tug which the Pacific Mills company used for two years before being sold to the Island Tug and Salvage Company of Victoria, BC. It was here that she received a major overhaul.
Picture with four tankers being towed in a line through several storms in the Caribbean Sea and then towed through the Panama Canal before finishing the journey up the coast to Vancouver, BC after a 4 month, over 4,000 miles journey!
The final photo was the famous rescue salvage tow of the Makedonia. The Sudbury made the round trip journey through the โ mountainous seas in the Gulf of Alaskaโ in 1955.

Hi Ron, Sorry I can't show you any examples of a trawler conversion. I've never looked for any or had any reason to. Try looking at some typical trawlers of the '50s and '60s for inspiration. Good luck๐ค a blog would interest me. Doug๐

Ron. Another good read is โCanadaโs Flowersโ History of Corvettes of Canada, and their fate. Available on Amazon amongst other outlets. Also attached a pic from the other book I sent you of Southern Pride the alleged forerunner of the flowers. Regards Bill.

SS Sudbury photos sent to me from the former owner. Copy of email I got from them: โ Hi Mr. Bauer
Thank you for your email. I am told by Seaspanโs โresident historianโ that the Sudbury was a fairly famous tug on the coast for salvages and long tows, Vessel started life as HMCS Sudbury a world war II Flower class corvette and was converted after the war to a tug by Island Tug and Barge.
We only have the attached black and white photos โ I hope these are helpful.โ

Some were turned into trawlers or whalers, which is what the hull was originally designed for. How about that Ron? There's hundreds of tugs out there as well. Not quite so many trawlers? Some Flowers were converted to freighters, some to whale catchers. Attached is a list of 'Flowers' and their fates. Yer pays yer money ....๐ Cheers, Doug ๐
