Vintage model boats.

You are lucky Bill. My Grandson is 20 and cannot muster enough motivation to come out of his bedroom. The only way he would make a boat is if they wrote a programme for Xbox.👹👹
I cannot promise to finish one project before starting another. I know, I tried.

Morning All.
So good to see so many lovely builds, especially the old one’s(the boats not their owners).
It is really great to hear and see how many of our Grandchildren are involved as well.
They are our future in all aspects including model boat building.
Our second Grandson loves it and regularly sails his HMS Buttercup that we built (see build blog on HMS Snowberry to HMS Buttercup conversion).
Take care all.
Regards
Bill.
Never give up.It will come right in the end.

Thanks Roy, lovely to see and hear these lovely pieces of model engineering at work.
My grandchildren like to see them running, so for safety purposes I use low pressure airline from my airbrush compressor.
My Bassett Lowke motor was a mess when removed from a tinplate coaster that I rescued at an auction for 50p about 15 years ago. Now on my display and runs sweetly on 6 volts.

Hi Colin, most impressed with your models and what you do with them. Having your grandson as well, that must make you feel great!
My grandaughter was with me on model boats for a few years sailing boats. Not anymore, well she is grown up and at work.

I saw you have the Bassett-lowke adverts for motors. I have a couple of them and a club member many years ago brought in one of the big ones, but he thought nothing of it and I bet it went in th skip when he died.

I have a small group of Toyshop Mamod and Wilesco accessories driven by an electric motor. Anyone seen this motor before? It is surprisingly powerful for this kind of motor.

The items to the right of the photo is a buck voltage converter which takes any voltage in and delivers, by choice 2.2 volts, to drive the motor. It all goes clankaty-bonk when running.
regards
Roy

Good morning Wolfgang, sorry to dissapoint you, but that is the sister ship Witte Zee.
And my grandson likes to tell everyone that when the real one was launched it was the largest ocean going tug in the world.
He also plays football for his towns under 12's and is quite a prolific goal scorer.
I am now teaching him what I can about building models and using tools safely.
Cheers Colin.

Fantastic group of models. Well done! My grandson loves sailing my RAF fireboat but as yet he is not interested in building one! Unfortunately lives almost 2 hours away so I wouldn't be around to help if he needed it. He is an avid football fan and supports Liverpool! I have no interest whatsoever in football apart from how he is doing in his football team! 😊

Thank you for the beautiful pictures of these beautiful ships.
The “Zwarte Zee” is also there. I built it too and it's still in my possession.

Colin,
I think you have certainly selected an excellent variety of boats and accessories to
display. I think it would get a lot of attention and perhaps entice onlookers to pursue
the hobby.
Congratulation on your grandson being active with you.
I think that makes you a Great Grandpa!

Alessandro, thank you for your nice comments.
I have many model boats from 1914 up to 1980's plus a few more in the process of being built.
Some of the models I own have been built by my grandfather, some by my father and some by me, along with a lot either bought by myself or donated to me in need of restoration.
I tend to use autumn and winter to work on my models and enjoy sailing and showing in the summer at vintage shows in my area, usually taking between 20 and 30 for a weekend show, for which I have built a trailer that is also used as a storage container.
My grandson has now joined in with my hobby and has 7 boats of his own which he also likes to take to the shows with me.
We both enjoy sailing our models and we can get quiet competitive in maneuvering and towing with our Tugs.
I suppose my main hobby is the restoration and conservation of these fine old models which need love and understanding to bring them back to life, I try to keep them as close to original as possible.
But must admit to using modern 2.4ghz radios in most of the ones we sail regularly these days.
I hope this helps you understand why I am on this wonderful website offering advice when I can but also still learning myself.
Cheers Colin.

COLIN.
