Roy cv i wasn' t aware that i was starting such a discussion about competition.....๐ First: the wives that join their husband skippers are knitting or talking to other clubwive members they never interfer with what their husbands are doing( may be he told her to shut her mouth at home ๐ The trial has to be done from a dedicated aerea without moving( to watch better the buoys) We think that the circumstances are the the same for every body. No body makes remarks or is laughing when somebody missed or touched a buoy. There 's no discussion at the end of the day just a lot of fun and at the anual dinner the one who has scored the best gets a reward. that's it ๐

When we did have competitions I would also be a judge and accompany some one going round the course. I have never forgotten taking a friend around who was a regular contributor to Model Boats magazine. He had a single screw Pilot boat, it is his design and in the Sarik plans service.
The way he handled his model was a Master class in how to run a model boat, that was at least 35 years ago! It was a joy to watch.
On another occasion the worst situation was a wife who insisted on being with her husband who was a little 'quiet'. The boat was an early kit using 2 Voith Schneider drive units and he was not on top of operating them yet. She contested every error at every gate. Never heard nagging like it.
I went home and thought to myself what a remarkable lady I was married to! We both liked a peaceful friendly existence! I think my wife has lost her cool only 3 times in nearly 61 years and it was in shops with poor service and only once with me! But as a poor example of the male gender I count myself most fortunate, it was just the once! Regards Roy

I am with you ROYcv. The competitions are never fair. There are just too many variables. Often they lead to bad feelings. Forget the competition let's just get together and have fun.

The sure way to succeed is, just try one more time
Roy cv ร good morning I own you an explanation ๐ We have a trial with buoys in the water and you have to navigate your model in between. The ones which are the farest away are the most difficult ones . A full trail equals 100 points if you navigate in between not touching the buoys are 10 points, touching them is 3 points passing them is 0 points. We talk about competitors as it is a challenge but we are all friends and as you said we have nothing to prove and we all come for the friendship and the discussions about the new built, the motor problems, new products on the market and all the deseases we have as an old bunch of skippers. But the most important thing is the friendship between us.

Hi Hermank, the only thing I would query with your post is competitors. Here in the UK we have very few competitions except for any class racing. Most model meetings are just friendly gatherings, I used to organise competitions for running model boat around a course of buoys with a prize(s) at the end, but it died out at least 15 years ago maybe longer.
I think it may be an age thing as many of us are more interested in talking about boats etc. Perhaps we do not think we have anything left to prove! But just like to further the hobby. Anyway, enjoy your boating and pictures are always welcome. Roy
