Try contacting a local gun club that has its own indoor range. They will have loads of spent lead to get rid of.

Thanks for the advice gents, sorry for the tardy response but I didn’t get an email notification. I have sourced the lead shot and the reason I needed that rather than sheet lead is that the yacht I’m building comes with a 5kg keel insert weight which needs to be bedded in round the sides with a further kg of shot then set in resin.

Airgun pellets are mostly made from lead and being small they can be moulded to fill a void by mixing them with resin and pouring them in - or left loose and they will find their own level.

I run a target shooting club in Rawtenstall (Lancashire) and we always have plenty of shot pellets available - free of charge - to anyone that would like to come and collect a bucket full!

Frankie, You could try car tyre fitting garages and see if they have any wheel weights to spare, they are always handy, either that or fishing equipment shops for sinkers.

Hi Frankie, with regard to your request for lead shot for ballast, I am sure by now you are aware of the fact this is a very expensive road to go down. So why not consider rolls of lead flashing as an alternative, a two meter roll by four inch width will not break the bank, and is easy to fit and press into the shape you require, and fasten with a squirt of silicon mastic. Either Screwfix or a decent builders yard should be able to supply the goods. Hopefully a solution to your problem. Regards, Gary. (PS, easy enough to cut with a good pair of tin snips, or also available from Screwfix?)

There’s very little choice on EBay and Amazon and what is there is expensive. I’ve managed to source 5kg of 2mm loose shot from Folkestone Engineering Ltd who supply to the shotgun trade. £33 including delivery. www.feskent.co.uk 01303 894 611 if anybody else needs any.
