Yeah, only one. When I said smoked, really! It looked like I had a smoke generator on board.

Lew, only one? I went through about 4 Vipers in BLANK CHECK working with their tech support to solve the problem. To Mtronics’ credit they replaced all of the four; why I said excellent after sale support. We never figured out a solution.

So, on another’s advice I have been using HobbyKing XCar 45 wx proof esc’s with no problems. Unfortunately those seem to be out of production.

I'm using Hobbywing for any new or retrofit applications also.
Either 1060's for single motor or 880's for twins.
They are cheap, reliable, and readily available. (Although they have gone up in price recently).

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

So that's why I fried (smoked!) one of the two mtronics ESCs in my towboat. I found that the mtronics had a great slow speed, barely turning the prop. However, I have been buying the Hobbywing 1060 for years as I have found them to be 1/2 the price (in the USA) with greater current capacity plus they work very well.

I am also a fan of Mtronics. They cost a little more by are very reliable They are many varieties available
An important feature of Mtronics is that if radio signal is lost they automatically go to a neutral “stop” position. The quickrun type will under some circumstances go to a full speed reverse condition which can be total disaster
The sure way to succeed is, just try one more time

I use the HobbyWing Quicrun ESCs as they were recommended by guys on Mahem. They are good quality and perform well and are my standard ESC now. Also easy to program if you get the program card as well, apart from the 30amp ESC that won't accept a program card and you have to use the bleep method. I have a couple of boats with them in and programming wasn't too difficult though.

Bizarrely their 30amp water-cooled version, the Seaking, will accept the card. Wished I'd known as only a bit more expensive.

Just don’t use Mtroniks in a twin installation. When used individually they are a fine esc.
As was said tech service response is excellent. Mtroniks has a spurious current problem when used in tandem. They can’t seem to solve it even with optical isolation.

Hi Pat. I recommend Mtronics speed controllers. Made in West Yorkshire with an excellent after sales service. I have been impressed with smooth operation and range of speed control especially at low speed, but all the way up to top speed.
