Open the box, and you get pancakes!

She’s ready Ron, just not fully rigged yet. That was going to be one of my cold weather projects. I am only at the lake a few more weekends before we have to close up the house for the winter. I am def thinking about it. I may do a run in my bosses pool. 😉

Hi Chum, when I get around to it I will build it for display and will outfit it for RC, much like my (equally ancient) Sterling American Scout that I renamed “Pacific Trader.”

And Ron, I may do a pin pass to see how it goes together. But, my biggest concern will be having as much room in the hull as my Sterling kit has. Interestingly enough they are both 1:100 scale, but the Sterling kit is plank on frame as opposed to the Robbe kit’s slab construction.

However, I must admit that the Robbe kit has a more pleasing line compared to the utilitarian feel of the Sterling ship…below.

Will this be an RC or display build? Your documentation of a bread & butter build will be interesting for many folks. Many years ago I did a small lobster boat using that method.
I’ll be watching.👍

Do you have different grades of sand paper? Maybe a belt sander too?

Take a photo of them stacked up together, use some straight pins if needed to give us an idea. It might not be so bad once we see it.

Very impressive and a good find, although not my preferred cup of tea, I am sure that you will enjoy converting that pile of balsa wood into a fully functioning freighter 👍

I do enjoy shaping balsa wood, it is very satisfying but the last time it did it was on the “bread and butter” cabin roof and bows of my Vic Smeed Remora - nothing like as big a job as your hull shaping will be.

….…meanwhile, I will flog on with the Classic Model Power Boats that I am currently enjoying building and restoring.

Enjoy!

Bob.

Hi Jumpugly, I can't wait for you to get started on this project.
I hope you'll take lots of photos of every stage of the process.
I think it's helpful to illustrate all the processes and construction steps in modeling forums. They're very helpful, even essential, for anyone who wants to learn. Everyone has their own unique characteristics and unique skills.
I'm also curious to see your painting techniques, given the fantastic results you always achieve.

Hey Gang: Well here she is, the ancient Robbe Cap Valiente freighter. And yes, she's a beauty, but open the box and get an extraordinary mound of balsa, that is to be slab built one piece on top of the other.
Then comes the monstrous task of sanding, grinding, and carving to get to get her 50 inches of wooden pancakes into into any semblance of the beauty she deserves to be. smh

Well...at least the box art is nice. I will have to take it out in the yard to wrestle with this much wood... someday.

Has anyone built this old gal?

😂👍😉
