EMYC Annual Dry Dock Dinner & Annual Swap Meet

Hi Dave, I'm interested in sailing ship models from the second half of the 19th century.
I'm interested in the entire deck fittings and rigging.
I'd prefer gaff rigs rather than square sails.

I thought you might have photos you haven't posted, so if your search is difficult or you have to spend a lot of time, don't worry; I don't want to bother you.
Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and your generous support.

Alessandro,
I don't have any sailing ships. But our club has a group of members that are quite active sailors.
I could ask them for some.
Can you give me some specifics as to what you'd like to see?
Our last meeting of the year is our Dry Dock Party, which was this past weekend. We will not be meeting again until the 2nd Tuesday in January. But I could send an email inquiry to some members, if I have sort od specific questions.
Are you asking more about scale tall ships as opposed to boats used in pond racing?

Dave

PS I do have photos taken on a family vacation back in 2006 when we drove to Green Bay, WI to see Tall Ships visiting the harbor. They were taken more from the perspective of family vacation orientation, but many of them may offer insight into "real" tall ship rigging. Let me know if you think they may help.
So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Hi Dave, do you have any photos of sailing ships? Tall Ship. I'd love to see some construction details and solutions adopted for ropes and rigging.

Jump,
I agree, the Amsterdam is a great boat. That particular one was bought by a member who already has one (one that I previously owned). He bought it because he wanted the original box that came with it. The boat itself will be available ... too bad you're so far away.
Here are a couple pictures. The first one is my first Amsterdam which I passed on to the other club member, when I acquired the second one. The second one has better detail. I still have the second one on display in my home office.

Great Stuff DW!!!!! And some glorious boats! I would have gone berserk at the swap meet; probably would've had to have bolted to the closest ATM!
That Artesania Latina Amsterdam is on my bucket list!

EMYC Annual Dry Dock Dinner & Annual Swap Meet

The Edina Model Yacht Club winds up the boating season every year with a Dry Dock Dinner followed by a Swap Meet the next day.
Last night we had a BBQ Buffet catered by Famous Dave's BBQ. After dinner, we had a speaker who spoke about the history of "Trolley Boats" on Minnesota's Lake Minnetonka. The boats were built by a local trolley car line, and served the western end of the line outside Minneapolis and St. Paul. Back in the late 1800's there was a fleet of them running regular daily routes to the lake's numerous attractions. By 1926, transportation had evolved, and the boats were no longer sustainable. They were stripped of any pieces usable on the rail trolleys and scuttled deep in the lake. One of them has been found, surfaced, and restored. They hope to have it back in service in the spring of 2026. Several of our club members have restored two scale models of the original Trolley Boats, which are now used in marketing and fundraising efforts.
Today, we had our annual Swap Meet, which was well attended, and had a nice variety of built boats, kits, and parts. I am very proud to say that my willpower was strong, and I ONLY ended up with one boat. A Dumas 1247 Rangeley Tour Boat (appropriate, since last night's presentation was about the history of Lake Minnetonka Trolley tour boats!).
It was a great weekend!
