"Try RC Boats" event

6 weeks ago i created an event to try bring the younger generation back into the hobby. Over the years it's been evident especially in our club that the youth of today aren't as interested in model boats anymore.

I started a "Try RC Boats" event on a Saturday morning for 2 hours from 10am. The first event we has 23 attendees mostly parents and children. A few days ago that number rose to 61 and every week we've had at least one new member join.

To host this event i personally invested in 15 small beginner friendly rc boats and also converted a few old "tough" fishing boats to be used for the event.

I don't think the pond has ever seen so many rc boats at once on it and we have even had the nations newspaper photographer along and an article about the event spread across Scotland. I'm now planning a little incentive that if you collect 9 tiny 3d printed boat tokens then if you bring them on your 10th visit then you'll get a mystery gift.

That gift is your own small Rc boat.

The event is completely free of charge and returning visitors can have a shot of some of our own boats too.

So onwards and upwards to the future of our hobby here at Aberdeen Model Boat Club

Brilliant idea!.. and exactly what the hobby needs. It's very sad to see the younger generation not having interest in hands-on hobbies anymore. Social media and technology has a lot to answer for here.

I'm fully in support of your endeavours. Huge credit to you and Aberdeen Model Boat Club 👍👍
