Thanks jumpugly! She turned out far better than expected and still lots to do which i'll be continuing tomorrow. Have you ever seen a spinning radar powered by a 180 size motor linked to a 12" long flexshaft? No me either though thats the plan ๐Ÿคž

    Thanks Ian

Yes a small scale rc helicopter will do the trick. I already fly larger nitro helicopters so that will help.

The plan is to take off from deck with a camera filming it from the stern.

I'll then land by the side of the pond and attach two small strips of metal to the skids. The helipad has magnets under it so when I line up and touch the deck when landing it will grab it to stop it slipping off when the main rotors are spoiling down.

All that I wrote is the plan ๐Ÿ˜‚. Either way it'll be filmed and either way it'll be posted

Yes only for the bow tank and then on the way back down emptied that and started filling the stern tank. Today was the first time on any water and glad to say no additional ballast to get her sitting right. I had carefully positioned everything in the hull for perfect balance. Hi Ronald the maximum capacity of both tanks is 1 litre. During the video going into the wind I ran them till the first tank was full in the bow. I have two breather outlets on the side and once the first tank is full it'll sputter some water out there to let me know. The second will do the same thing when full. The hull will drop up to an inch deeper in the stern and an inch and a half in the bow.

A perfect though breezy day for a maiden. Viper shares the same hull as the Iron Executioner though is built from carbon fibre PLA and coated in epoxy resin.

She has working ballast tanks and pumps allowing adjustment of hull depth in the water to help on windy days like today.

Powered by twin 545 brushed motors running through Caldercraft ball raced shafts and spinning 5 blade 40mm props.

Independent 80amp esc's and an independent rudder connected to a gyro.

2 fixed stability and tracking fins.

Next will be lighting along with the helipad being fitted and an rc helicopter (MD500) to sit on the stern.

Power is supplied by a 3s 5200mah 80c lipo though today through in a 3s 2250mah for the maiden.

Has ample power and at full throttle pulls 18amp respectively from both sides.

Cuts through the chop like its not there and very well mannered.

Took 3 weeks from design to the maiden though was literally 3 weeks of up to 16 hours per day working on her alongside her sister ship.

Now time to get soldering and get the lighting sorted

More progress and getting closer to pond trials. Still aiming for this Sunday morning. Tomorrow the premium ballraced propshafts will be fitted along with her 5 bladed 40mm props. Some mixing to do in the bath tomorrow evening to get the steering and fwd/rwd finely tuned. The rest of the detailed painting will happen after the pond trials.

Battery arrived in the form of a 3s 5200mah 80c though the motors will be limited to 30% power available.

Estimated constant run time of around 1 hour

Rc helicopter has been ordered for the helipad

    Hi Pete

Yes and very easily. The recommended build plate size would be 220mm and upwards.

I've designed a couple of high pitch 3 blade propellers for her also that would be ample. They are 50mm and are left hand and right hand. I will be trying a 5 blade and 7 blade skewed propeller design too. I'm trying to get as much thrust from as low rpm as possible. These 3 blade propellers pull 14amp at a capped 50% throttle and in the bath on my test board they produce plenty of thrust. My scales reading is 700g of it

    Regards

    Scott

Hi its the Creality K2 Plus with 350mm x 350mm bed size and using PLA+. She's quite small in terms of what tou could print from that bed. Could easily use a smaller 220mm bed for this size.

Will be coated in Epoxy resin before a few layers of the gunmetal grey paint and lacquer.

Also for the stl files. Once I've finalised a few errors in the print model I'll happily hand them out.

The original real vessel is the Stan patrol vessel and it shares part of that design.

Part of the bow is 1inch solid PLA for strength with a 2cm solid keel line as a backbone. I'm going to glass some internal joints for added peace of mind though the sections are coming together nicely.

Heres a photo of the smaller accessories printer hard at work with guardrails, bollards, spot lights, rudders and A-frame

A new design and at just over 1 metre and 45cm tall she's a fairly good sized vessel. Twin motor with a gyro to help her track. Twin working stabiliser fins, bow thruster, spinning radar, ballast tank in the bow.

    Twin 545 brushed motors with 2 x 80amp esc spinning 2 x 30mm 6 blade props

Last photo is Ai of what I'm aiming for as an end result

Not prostate however testicular checks should be paramount too. I had testicular cancer at 33 and it was found by chance when in for scans for a different issue. Its not the end of the world if they need to go though as we had sperm removed and have a lovely healthy 3 year old boy. The ongoing for life treatment is rubbing a gel on my shoulders called Nebido which is testosterone or you can opt for a 10 weekly injection instead.

Definitely in the down below department nastiness can hide fairly well so regular checks are a must

Bit more progress in the last 48 hours. That's all her part's now printed. Next it's sanding along with filler time and then more sanding. Propulsion system is work in progress and awaiting 2 M2 shafts arriving for the outer motors. Rudder is printed and awaiting a servo arriving to link that though in two ways whether to have the rudder fixed as with the 2 outers i doubt there will be any issues with manoeuvring. She will have 5 blade props on the outers and 4 blade on the centre.

I've a bunch of nav lights and underwater illumination lights to wire up.

Sea trials, I'm aiming for the 25th of March and hopefully cosmetically finished by mid April.

Yes she didn't look too frightening though the 18 guns along with torpedoes and her speed made her the success she was. I still have several to add though my resin printer is currently sick. It was her masts that took me back as these where broken. I can't get over how tall they where on the real ship. Wouldn't have like to shuffle up them to maintain the top.

My model version is about to get another slight refit with smaller motors and a new rudder to single prop mix.

I have an Arduino gps autopilot to fit for summer which will allow me to set a course and it'll follow that until i flick a switch on my transmitter. Can have the course as a constant slow loop around the pond so i can sail other boats ๐Ÿ˜€

Well spent the day in the clubhouse scrubbing the dust off of the Atlantis and giving her a polish. Sails to clean next then sort out some wiring corrosion though almost ready to get sailing again once we have water in the main pond. Failing that she's going in the river at high tide.

Thank you. They are fairly tall. This isn't our normal pond so normally its easier to launch without having to lean right down. I don't know how thr wee pond is dropping when its not stopped raining for a month ๐Ÿ˜‚.

I fly rc planes in the rain too. Internals stay dry and if water does manage to get in everything including the receiver is waterproof. I've never had any issues sailing in rain or snow. Transmitter normally goes into a bag over my hands if its torrential rain and I'll stand in the shelter though find it very therapeutic being able to listen to rain hitting the pond whilst sailing at the same time. Rc helicopters are even better since you see the vortex of the rain under the rotors ๐Ÿ˜Š

    Hi DuncanP!

Wow she has beautiful lines. A lovely though simple hull. Upper structure a little tougher though not impossible. I'd happily try replicating her later in the year to around the 1 metre mark. I'm tied up with print orders for our club along with some of my own at the moment. Will be upgrading to 2 even bigger printers in August to help speedup the print rate.

In the meantime i'll look into her more ๐Ÿ˜Š

So where to start. I took ownership of this broken, split and damaged Emden that had been in the club for many years. The hull is around 50 years old and had never been sailed before. Hull is a mystery as there's cardboard, plywood then fibreglass.

Fittings kit on deck was completed around 12 years ago and obtained from the Deans marine Embden.

I had to remove the original prop shafts and motors as everything was seized solid. I believe this boat was sunk when our clubhouse was flooded!

Twin Radiolink esc's, rc helicopter gyro and a 12v lead acid battery

    3D printed scale like props

    Overall she sails very well.

So I had success with a small cruise/ferry last year. I had received what could only be called broken stl files. Overall it was a lovely design though had come from someone with no experience in the marine side of things. He had designed it though upon printing it realised it had a tendency of capsizing or splitting the back in the middle. So gave up on the whole thing.

I saved the files and updated them all for a strong and more scale like hull.

My small 40cm version was great and even though a tiny ship the presence on the water was incredible.

I've decided I need a larger one for this year.

The difference though is this build isn't going to be a simple stick together, sand and paint then get on the water.

No this is going to be wood line the internal space then sand and coat in resin thus creating a smooth one piece hull. That'll add the extra ballast weight for me instead of having to add weights.

I'm then going to hand paint her to mimic the real version though will be altering a few parts of the paint design to my own taste.

For power she's going to be a triple motor. One speed 400 in the middle and 2 380 brushed on the outside that run through a Forge mixer for differential steering. There will also be a scale like rudder in the centre with the centre motor only being used for windy or rough days.

A bow thruster may be added though thats not for certain just yet.

Power will be supplied by twin 2s 1000mah lipo batteries along with 2 60amp esc and 1 40amp esc. Rudder will use a metal gear 9g servo.

There will also be a Rudder gyro onboard that will help her track easier and fight any tendency to slide out

The plan is to install working navigation lights that will operate off an electronic switch allowing on and off from the transmitter and spinning radar powered by a 3v motor. A Bluetooth speaker system for some music that combines a cruise ship horn and engine sounds.

Overall she should come in at around 1.1m long and an auw of 8kg

She continues to print as i type this so will add more photos as she continues to grow

That esc was sold in the UK branded as either macgregor or multiplex and when powering it on it acted like a micro switch with no throttle till just over 50% then full throttle. Pop the kettle on for me ๐Ÿ˜† that sound bliss. The belt idea sounds far better and probably best for ironing out minor vibrations. Its for my cruise ship. I've a motor in the middle though I've 3 propshafts. I was going to run a small 280 motor in the middle and then have the outers running off one Graupner Speed 600. I could easily go for additional motors etc but I find pulleys, gears, belt aesthetically pleasing to the eye and they are enjoyable to tinker with

A good solid brushed esc for less than ยฃ5 is one of these. I use them in all my brushed boats from scale to speedboats and they are fantastic. 320amp? No they certainly are not though I've pulled 60amp safely out of them on a 3s lipo at full throttle with no air flow and never had an issue. They are waterproof too. Fwd/Rev they are 50/50 and can be programmed on a generic program card. I've had 1 out of maybe 50 fail and that was my own error.

Highly recommended. My second cheap recommendation is IDST 70amp Bluetooth esc. It connects to an app so you can set everything up exactly how you want. It allows you to adjust whilst you sail and gives good telemetry feedback live
