About this boat

My build of the US famous Monterey Clipper. There was a fleet of these fishing boats along the north coast of California extending to Bodega Bay, northward. San Francisco had the largest fleet with several shipyards, Hicks engine shops, & other chandeliers to service them. The history of the Monterey is far too long to describe here. I can be contacted to provide excellent references to consult.

A few more details. I know of another partially built hull that is available if there is any interest. Best to limit shipping to US because shipping overseas probably cost prohibitive.
As might be apparent I am a big supporter of these models & have great respect for their history including the skilled craftsmen who built incredibly beautiful models, working Hicks engines, & developed hull moulds. All to keep the legacy alive.

Thanks for providing the link Ronald. HarborModels is one of the few excellent hobby suppliers remaining in the US. It probably is merely camera distortion but to my eye the aspect ratios are a click off for the hull. To me it appears the hull is too deep & the beam is too wide for the hull’s length. I’m more than likely incorrect with this as the owners of Harbor Models are connected to a long line of very knowledgeable Monterey folks.
Their brief historical description is excellent!

Well I am incorrect! 👎 The length: beam ratio is essentially 3:1 for the Harbor Models version which is the same as my 27” hull. So, as I mentioned HM owners are well connected to very knowledgeable Monterey folks. I should have known!🤔

If this works, posting this VERY short video was easy.

It worked! Video is very short but conveys the idea.

A fiberglass hull was made available to me. Everything else was scratch built from photos. Additionally, a friend from RCG here in the US shared his treasure trove of photos of a noted Monterey modeler’s build of LUCKY BOY. The same friend was also able to send me some dimensional data. In addition several other Monterey enthusiasts & modelers shared their knowledge.
I believe the hull is currently available (made to order) from Loyalhanna Shipyards here in the US.

What a beautiful looking boat. I love the canoe stern (is that what you call it ?) Did you build from plans, and if so, are they available ? Details please. 😉

I have a VERY short video, 2 or 3 seconds in duration, I could post if someone will steer me towards how to make the post. BTW, this is one of the best handling boats I have. Hull form makes for great stability.
Thanks to all for your interest & comments. As I said, if there is interest I will post a link that
explores a lot about the boats.

    Beautiful boat Chum444.
It would be nice to see some videos too. For static models photos are enough but for dynamic models videos are needed, we want to see them navigate.

If I haven’t seen the other pictures I would have thought that it were pictures of the real one
