Riva scratch built boat update by Alan999 Lieutenant   Posted: 2 days ago
Riva Chris Craft finally finished after numerous coats of varnish and sanding.Beauty to work on especially as it was plans from Canada for 18 pounds and scrap two and three ply wood. Dumas supplied chrome accessories which gives that special look and were very helpful

Riva Chris Craft by Alan999 Lieutenant   Posted: 5 days ago
Finally the Riva completed. Numerous varnishing and rubbing down Dumas sent from America chrome fittings which gives really good finishing touch Built from plans and scrap plywood and veneer. So much more pleasure making than from kit. Will launch at Torrevieja boat club second Sunday of the month .

It's getting near to sailing day. 16 coats of boat varnish later my Riva Barrel back Chris Craft will see water soon.Newly arrived parts and decals from Dumas have arrived from Tucson Arizona.I did drive Doug at Dumas mad with questions on parts but he was very helpful. Had to figure out how to place the back top panel on and off in one go to get access to motor and battery.About two weeks more and I think it will be launch day.

Today I bought two sheets here in Spain of veneer . Two metres long by 12 inches wide each sheet. Cost was ten euros and I can cut whatever dive I want. That will last till I am well past it.!!

A good model supplier is in New North Road Hainault.Essex. I buy my wood there but the owner says I am a rarity. Most people want aeroplanes or helicopters ready made.

I love making these boats from scratch with remote control and all the other bits. But I like to put some humour in them. Out here in Spain the locals love my boats with these extras.

International Model Boat Show by Alan999 Lieutenant   Posted: 2 months ago

A big thanks to all of you for your advice regarding the finish on the Riva boat I,m building. The wet n dry treatment is amazing so it will be used after each coat of the barque varnish.

Boat chit chat by Alan999 Lieutenant   Posted: 3 months ago
Thanks guys for your assistance. The motor was in sealed bag when it arrived. My electronic wizard who wires up my boats connected the motor as per usual and it was dead I phoned Howes and they found my order as it was recent and the total was £130.30 They said return the motor for testing. My grivience is that they should trust me an old customer and send another motor whilst I post their one back.

Boat chit chat by Alan999 Lieutenant   Posted: 3 months ago
Has anyone bought a speed 600 motor from Howes lately. I have. Brand new and the motor is seized up.

Boat show Spain by Alan999 Lieutenant   Posted: 3 months ago
Here at Castellon Spain for boat show. Well attended here and show has around 8 sponsors including large DIY firm Leroy Merlin. We should have model boat suppliers support us in England. Quality of boats very good and well attended

Speed 600 motor by Alan999 Lieutenant   Posted: 4 months ago
Just unwrapped Speed 600 motor from Howes for my boat. It's dead as a dodo.Phoned Howes was told post it back for testing. As my bill for parts from them was £130 you would think they would send me a motor and I would post the duff one to them. It's all time as I'm in spain.
