    Hi Everyone
Thanks again for all your good advice...much appreciated.

Think I will look into a collar for the prop shaft...I did cut up an old m3 prop and extended it into a 2 piece (see pic) and that seemed to stop the shaft unwinding. I hadn't realised it needed a buffer to stop this.(should've paid more attention in the science lesson)

I'll post the results after the new collar is fitted

    Best wishes
    Jon

All very helpful replies, I will work my way through them.

Am I right in thinking that if the locking nut is up against something solid, it can not physically move and therefore remains in situ .
So, if I infilled the gap between the now end of the outer shaft and locking nut ( cut a length of old prop ) this might work as well.
    Best wishes everyone

    Jon

    Hi Terry
Thank you for your thoughts, I'll have invest in a dog drive ...its a conversion from glow to electric, the outer prop shaft was set when I purchased the already started kit, which I don't really want to rip out .
So, if I infill the inner shaft up to the outer shaft ending, it might work!!
    Appreciate your time and help
    Regards Jon

    Hi Everyone,

Hope we're all enjoying the fine sailing weather !

I think the recent heat wave must have frazzled my brain. Why does my prop unwind on reverse drive, its all fitted as usual, but, it unwinds off the splined upper uj ? Locking nuts and washers all tightened.

    Thanks in advance
    Jon

    Hi Everone
Hope we are all enjoying the over heated normal british summer !
I purchased this vintage kit as a started model and am now nearing the build completion.
I've seem some photos of colours and some varnishing but.....I'm looking to bring her up to date( in a sympathetic way).
Any ideas or thoughts on colours or finish.
    Or any pics .
I'm also considering selling her, so maybe I should offer her as a fresh build and leave to new keeper

    Hi Everyone
Hope everyone is in good fettle, an update ....
Having listened to everyone's thoughts and ideas and proved it wasn't the Tx or Rx, decided to swap out the brushless ESC .

I also swapped out the motor and battery for traditional Torpedo 850 and Mtroniks 25A marine ESC plus Lead Acid battery. Now all rigged up and ready to go and you've guessed it . Full Astern

Interestingly the brushless JP 600 ESC was only used once, so it must be a overtime deterioration.
Anyone else experienced this I wonder ?
The sun is shining and you know where I'm off to๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Thanks again everyone
    Best wishes to you all

    Hi Everyone
    Cheers to one & all
All very useful info going forward, based on what has been suggested think I will invest in a new ESC and keep those fingers well and truly crossed.
I will post the results and my findings

In the mean time , keep well and stay safe.๐Ÿ˜Š

    Best wishes
    Jonb.

    Hi Dave
Thank you for your continuing efforts with this issue ..this morning I took your advice and swapped over the rudder servo lead to esc , and your right , full functionality on rudder ....so, now have proved Tx & Rx are OK
Going forward need to try and reconfigure ESC or swap out .
Point of interest ....this is a water cooled ESC to link with water cooled brushless motor . If it was changed for a non cooled one and I rigged up an air cooled system for the motor , would I be up looking at a disaster in the making ?

Thanks again to everyone, you are all educating my grey cells

    Hi Everyone
Many thanks for all your thoughts and ideas ..
Have retried Tx first then Rx .... no improvement !
Why would the system retain 75% of the operation, ie full servo on the rudder and full power on forward only .
I would of thought, (probably wrongly). all or nothing .
Is it possible to prove an individual piece of kit has given up the ghost ?
The ESC is a jp600 that's all I can read, used velcro and on removal all the little writing has disappeared ๐Ÿ˜•
Thanks again for your time everyone, it is appreciated ๐Ÿ‘

    Vintage Model Works kit :
My third kit from this London based company, I had a few issues but I'm very pleased to say that they really excelled themselves and everything was sorted very quickly.
I've tried plastic & fibreglass kits but cannot get on with either. Here's hoping for a good summers sailing .๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Hi Everyone
Thanks for the warm welcome, looking forward to being able to pick the brains of you seasoned salt dogs !
In middle of 2nd Fire Tender build, difficult to find modern wood build kits I find.
Like many (I should imagine) suffer from not enough space and lack of good tools.
Good thing Xmas is around the corner .๐Ÿ˜
