I bought the retro Aeronaut Outboard with brushless motor, I bought it from a model shop in France as it was cheaper, but they are available at Cornwall Model Boats or Leeds Model Shop, My father bought the standard non Retro style, its been fitted angled down, up, low & high with little change! when it catches right it flys, but a lot of time it will spin and just chop the water up, still a work in progress.

Hi Neil,
Myself and my father have both built these, excellent quality and a straightforward build, the challenge has been mounting the outboard so as the prop doesn't just cavitate, we've yet to solve that one completely

While I’m still sorting out the running, problems to solve now are, it won’t turn at full pelt, assuming the rudder servo isn’t man enough, so will update it to a metal geared hi torque one, and the motors getting very hot, thinking of adding air cooling as well as the water, Added a flying bridge for no other reason than I fancied it :-)

It’s a brushless 3660 3600kv loads on eBay less than £20, definitely needs Lipos!, and they need a high current draw rating, at least 50c
I’m using a 3S, and it rockets the 4’ boat along!, it also needs a decent water cooling system as gets warm!

I have 2 of the Action-Electronics P94’s and they work great, a neat package containing 2 20amp ESC’s and a rudder mixer, problem is there so erratic in their availability, anyone aware of an alternative?
I’ve used separate ESC’s and a forge electronics mixer, works but not as neat...

Well I purchased a hugely powerful brushless motor, (before I realised it was over the top!) so paired it up with something that might handle it!, 4ft long, fibreglass hull, 150amp esc, first water trials sucked a 12v 5amp (what I had at the time) dry in 4 minutes!
Put an ammeter on it and it’s drawing 40amps!
It’s all trial and error and learning on the way!

My first (Not including the Mastman Bantam Tug) scratchbuild!, really enjoyed this one and I know there’s no such thing as a finished boat, I’ll continue to adorn it, it’s maiden sail was really successful only thing I have changed is the rudder throw from the servo it needed more for tighter turns

Well maiden voyage semi successful, no chance of a video it flew!, too much speed, to course a prop, chewed through a 12v 3.3ah battery in about 4 minutes...
So, new prop on order, same diameter much less course, rearranged batteries to use 7.2v, and added 4 of them in parallel to give me 14ah.
Will also add a couple of chines to the Hull for stability

Hi John, yes, there isn’t a huge amount of swivel on the buckets, was thinking of putting a mixer in rather than a rudder?, I suppose it’s just trial and error....

Yes a mast is an option!, I’m using it as a bit of a test bed, it has magnetic electric connections now, so as lights work simply by placing the superstructure on the hull, they double up as a way to secure it, will carry on adding detail, next is some railway sleepers to the front for pushing 😊

It’s a Aquastar 1750kv motor, a Turnigy 90a ESC, running on 12v 5.0 amp NiMh battery.
I’ve been avoiding LiPo, partly because I’ve got dozens of NiMh battery’s, and partly because it looks like black magic!, just not got the time to distract from my other projects to get into it yet, but I will at some point. This one is a bit quicker than I expected to be honest.

I’ve decided to realise a plan I have in my head, I’ve seen a craze for building ‘Noodle Tugs’ based on the swimming aids you find at the pool, and want to see if I can incorporate jet drives :-)
As with most projects start with a sheet of ply and see where it takes you, so I fitted the Noodle, shaped the transom and fitted a couple of jet drives, still lots of detail yet to be thought through but it will either work or it won’t!
